How to setup an HDD in WNDR4720 readySHARE? Used to work fine, now the HDD led in the router is off, USB storage working just fine.
I am in the netgeargenie, storage, readySHARE, but I cant see or browse the HDD. What I need to do in order for the router to recognize the HDD as far I can see is well placed on the tray.

Hi, In the router settings, you should see a tab or a drop down menu for usb storage or something like that. once you set that up, you should be able to map your pen drive to your computer. To map it, click start>computer up top you'll see "Map Network Drive" click that. A box will pop up and it will give you an option to assign a Drive Letter. it doesn't matter what you select. In the folder box, you'll want to put in the path for your pen drive..my router network drive looks like this...yours might be different, but it's pretty much the same setup.... \\Readyshare\USB_STORAGE\ To find the correct path for your pen drive, you'll have to go into your router settings and where you set up the pen drive, it should tell you the path....just copy it and past it in the folder box. Be sure to check the box for Reconnect at logon also.
If you still need help, let me know the make and model of your router and i can be more specific:)
I noticed some changes as well. Go to Media Server (you should see attached USB drive there) > Twonky. Download and install. Verify Email. Check Spam folder.
Login Twonky > My Library > Look for you router ID and Beam.
I'm still not to familiar with the new setup, but Good Luck as well.
Since your using NAS storage I assume the 1 TB drive is connected via your router? Is it powered by the USB port or plugged in via AC Adapter? If your powering the drive via USB go to the router setup page-NAS setup and make sure the router is not telling the USB port to save energy by powering down. Make sure the port is always on. The Router setup is proprietary to the Brand of router my Netgear R7000 with Kong DD-WRT Mod has a setting that controls power to the USB Ports. Make sure the drive enclosure isn't hot they have a tendancy to power down if they get to hot. Clean the vents if it has any so the drive stays at a normal operating temp
it says the HDD is not compatible with the router....
it might be due to the file system in HDD....
At this moment, the Belkin N+ Router and Modem-Router, F5D8235 and F5D8635 work with the FAT, FAT32, and NTFS file systems only.
Versions of the F5D8235 firmware earlier than 1.01.24 may fail to detect a drive that contains a mix of supported and unsupported file systems. This was fixed in firmware 1.01.24, available from the Belkin UK Support Site
We have seen a few compatibility problems with drives not being recognised and we are investigating these to get them fixed.
We have also seen occasions where a drive was not detected by the router or modem-router due to a poor quality USB cable. If a bus-powered drive does not spin up, the first thing to do is to make sure that a good quality cable is used. Even self-powered drives may fail to be recognised when using poor quality cables. Even though the cable may work when the drive is connected direct to a PC, always try a different (good quality) cable as part of troubleshooting drive detection problems.
Tech Support: If you come across a drive that is not being recognised by the Router or Modem-Router, please check on the hidden page http://192.168.2.1/storage_disk.html if the router has detected anything at all. Make sure that the drive works when connected directly to a Windows computer and try a good quality USB cable as mentioned above.
Gather and connect all necessary connecting cables. You need an Ethernet cable to go from the box linking the hard drive to your wireless router in one of the open ports on the back of your wireless router, and a USB cord connecting your external drive to the storage link box (unless you are using a flash memory device or stick drive).Power up the devices. Make sure your Internet connection Is working and that the storage device is working properly.Insert the Setup CD into your computer. Follow the instructions and install any necessary utilities for the specific type of external drive you are using. Configure the storage link. During setup you should have been given the option to secure the device with a login name and password. Open the device and log in. Make any changes you want to on the storage device, but if you aren't sure what specific changes you want to make to the default settings, leave the default settings alone to avoid creating problems.
If I understand correctly ... You have not connected the drive to a computer. If I am not mistaken the WD My Book has preinstalled backup software installed on it. It very well might also have a power down built as part of that programming. Try attaching it to a computer to verify this. Assuming the backup software needs blank drive to work correctly I would first access the drive select all and delete anything you find (if you know how to unhide hidden files do that before you select and delete all) ... As a 2nd option I would just reformat the drive. Hope that helps....
In the detail of the Belkin manuals it says you can attach up to 4 USB storage devices via a USB HUB.
I had an old Hub so I Connected the HUB to the router and the Maxtor to the HUB --- It worked :-) It came up in a few seconds.
At first I powered the HUB but later took the power out of the hub and it still worked ;-} However when I used a different HUB it would not work without power to the HUB.
The HUB I use is an old Belkin 4 port Tetra Hub. The newer 7 port Belkin HUB (5 Rear 2 Top) only worked with the HUB powered.
Hope this helps untill Belkin Upgrade the Router sofrtare.
if your usb light is not lit-there's a chance that your usb led is busted, usb cable is defective or printserver is defective itself.
if your going to connect your printer directly to your pc using the same usb cable and if it works that way. then it could be that your printserver is not working fine.
