Minn kota e drive

Motor runs fine in reverse, but will not run forward. The variable speed control display indicates power to the motor in forward, but the prop doesn't spin.

Need the model #. During the mean time(back in the buggy farm) trace the wiring & check the control switch operation including the connections. Trial & error-swap the polarity on the main power feed to motor control & check ops. Motor runs forward, motor OK.

SOURCE: Prop spins slow on any speed on the foot pedal

There is a good chance that the control board is bad. This is a common problem with these units. I have replaced my control board twice. When the control board goes out, some function of the unit will not work correctly while other functions work fine. The first time mine went out, the prop motor would not work. The last time the board went out, the unit would only steer right.

SOURCE: My Johnson Escape boat w/ Minn Kota engine stopped running

I've had the same problem. It steams from the control panel. I took and ran a seprate ground wire directly to the motor. This is simple to do and takes 15 minutes. Starting in the battery compartment feed cable into the split-loom and continue feeding until reaching the control panel. Pull an extra 5 foot of cable and open dry hatch in rear by motor feed cable around and out to motor connections., Good time to replace rotary switch and circuit breaker. These also are trouble-some parts.

What would cause a loss of power at higher speed selections

Here are a few tips...Read your manual before operating any equipment. Chances are, you over heated the motor and it has a safety switch to shut it off before it ruins the motor. They call that a duty cycle.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
1. Motor fails to run or lacks power:
• Check battery connections for proper polarity.
• Check battery cables to ensure they are tight and have a proper connection.
• Make sure that the terminals are clean and corrosion free.
• Check the battery water level. Add water if needed.
2. Motor loses power after a short running time:
• Check battery/batteries charge, if low, restore to full charge.
• Do not run the motor for extended periods of time out of the water.
3. Do not use starting batteries with this motor.
NOTE: Do not use your crank battery as one of the supply batteries; crank batteries are not built for deep discharge service.

Have a Minn Kota Riptide 70lb thrust 24 volt. While lifting the motor the cables were cut. We spliced them with a heavy duty connector and it worked fine for several weeks. Now the motor will not run on...

Does the splice get hot when you are running the motor? If yes, then the splice could certainly be the problem. I would have replaced the wire completely. However, the problem more than likely is the controller.

The motor has two speeds. Very fast forward and very fast reverse. The speed control is not functioning

A lot of these units have 2 year warranty. Minn Kota web site list authorized warranty repair centers. The foot control unit most likely got water in the digital switch. If not under warranty any longer, open it up and see if any water bubbles in the sealed board where speed switch makes contact. If so you will need new foot control.

Ran aground on lake, now stuck on high speed, can't lower speed

My Minn Kota 55 powerdrive had the same problem except mine occurred while it was trailered in the yard. High speed only, everything else worked great. From what I could research the control module is a frequent problem. Took a chance and purchased a new control module and this cured the problem. Maybe this happening and running aground was just concidental.
