Tried to download Tomtom Maps but failed twice. As the battery was down a little, I decide to charge it, at the end of which, switch the GPS on again. It came on for about 30 seconds - but showing only - the rear view of a Go GPS, then lost that picture.
The 'ON' green light still showed but the device would not activate. When disconnected from a power source - car or house supply - the green light does not show.
I tried another limited charge - with the light showing of course - but still no activation.
I'm wondering if it may be an internal battery failure?

While we both thought it might be the battery, it is, after upgrading, working at the moment. I followed the text and it seems to have done the job. Mind you, the Go 700 looks a very different now. I have entered a new route okay, so thanks for your help. But keep everything crossed.

Looks like the battery needs replacing, for this you will have to send it to the tomtom repair facility. can you connect it to the computer with usb does that work with power?
it looks like there update was not correctly installed, if it is working now that's good, but to be on the safe side you need to install the same update again to ensure that there are no files missing.it looks like there update was not correctly installed, if it is working now that's good, but to be on the safe side you need to install the same update again to ensure that there are no files missing.

You'll need to connect your GPS device to a computer (using the USB port), and use the TomTom HOME software to access and download maps from the tomtom website and install it on your device. Then, when you connect your GPS to your computer and run the HOME software, (after you sign in to your TomTom account), the software will identify data, maps, etc. that you can download and install on your TomTom GPS device.
Recently Tomtom has limited support and updates for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. They hope you'll get a new model. If your TomTom One GPS device is one of those models with little/no support, you're out of luck.
Usually, you'll want to connect a new TomTom GPS to your computer, and (using TomTom HOME), register the device and get the latest maps (downloaded and) installed on your GPS. Then, you'll have maps on your GPS.
There's a possibility that the navigation software is corrupted.
Have you tried to recover it from your backup (on your computer) ?
Otherwise, you'll want to use TomTom Home (or MyDrive Connect) to see if you can download and re-install the software from the tomtom webiste.
Recently, TomTom has decided to limit/stop support (including software/maps, etc.) for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. If your model is one of those, you're out of luck. TomTom is trying to have you buy a new model.
At couple years old you should look for new upgraded maps for your device. Go to TomTom web site and search for maps. http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/
For little more than the cost of new map, you might want to buy a new GPS (with newer maps and more features) as costs have gone down.
Having upgraded my Tom Tom ONE Europe with the latest application download and the latest Europe Maps, the device will not now switch on using battery power. The battery is fine, but the device will only switch on when power is present at the USB port. As I performed the two upgrades one after the other I do not know which introduced the change (poor practice by me I'm afraid!) No solution as yet.
