Nissan xterra I have p1273 and p0456 codes. I replaced the O2 sensor. P1273 came back after ~300 miles. What could be causing these? These codes came on a few hundred miles after replacing bank1 cat. Since changing the cat my gas mileage went from ~20 mpg to 15 mpg.

P0456 was likely the gas cap, evaporative emission alert.

p1273
Either the exhaust is leaking or management needs reset.

'Clear the Self Learning Data' procedure. Anytime fuel component is replace, this procedure needs to be done. (exhaust emissions as well)

1. Unplug MAF sensor
2. Start car for about 3 seconds. Turn off car. confirm P0102 code
3. re-connect MAF sensor. Clear code. START car.
4. Run car for 10 mins.

Additional, the O2 sensor is set to signal for replacement at about 80k miles in the ECU on most models and must be reset by computer link.

HI
the (P1273) refer to A\F SENSOR
that locate in the exhaust pipe
it was a sensor calculate the air to fuel ratio in the exhaust pipe and send that as electrical signal to the (ECU) that use it to correct the fuel injection timing in result to have economy of fuel and low bad gases in exhaust
the cause of this fault is :-
air fuel ratio sensor 1
air fuel ratio sensor 1 heater
fuel presser
fuel injectors
intake air leaks

SOURCE: Horrid gas mileage with a 91' Nissan D21, 4x4, 5-speed.

hello there

Your car needs a tune up, including the air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. It's also worth while checking for a faulty/stuck brake caliper, after you've been on a longish drive go around and feel the wheel rims if one is alot more warmer than the rest then you also have a faulty brake caliper.

Hope this helps. Please don't forget to rate me.

Thanks

Dear Gandhi
1) You better check the 'Idle control relay' - and pray this is not your computer - who may be shorted ( The Computer that govern all elec. functions in the car - is also getting signals from your Mothor Mounts' to ensure a more balanced ride' If one or more of the Motor Mounts ( There are 3 ) are defective - they send a signal to the computer - and the yellow light ( Check engine soon) - will appear'
2) A Computer can only be fixed by a Nissan dealer ( est. $750 ) 3) The Idle control valve - can be adjusted too ( Again - by a Nissan Dealer only .
4) It is NOT an easy problem nor cheap . In short - your best bet is with the dealer - and ask them for a diagnostic ONLY ( est. $100 ) Don't tell the dealer what YOU think or did .......just tell them the 'Yellow light comes on' .......they'll take it from there.
Sorry I don't have better news today .

Best of luck
David

My 05 Altima 3.5L popped up ABS, O2sensor, P1800 &P1273 frm the Auto Scan what do these mean & how to fix them?

P1800 is the VIAS system. Most likely the intake runner control vacuum actuator is defective. Where did you get the ABS info?
P1273 NISSAN - Air Fuel Ratio Sensor 1 Bank 1 Lean Shift Monitoring.
Possible causes - Faulty Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1
-Intake manifold or vacuum hose leaking (check this first)
- Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 harness is open or shorted
- Air fuel ratio (A/F) Sensor 1 Bank 1 circuit poor electrical connection
- Fuel pressure
- Faulty Fuel injector
- Faulty Air Flow Meter
If all seems ok then replace the cylinder bank number one O2 sensor and the bank two sensor, replacing only one sensor can lead to another check engine light. These are the sensors before the catalytic converter.
