Air Compressor will not build up over 25 PSI

-My air compressor runs and sounds great, but it only-builds air to 25 psi but no more. I checked the cylinder, piston, and rings and everything looks perfect. The only thing I noticed was that when the compressor is running air blows out a small hole located at the top of the oil fill plug, which I believe is done by design. The compressor will maintain 25 psi on the gauge overnight with no bleed down and it does not shut down since it doesn't ever build up enough pressure. Therefore, it runs continuously until I shut it down manually.

Please Help!

Thanks for your reply, but the pressure switch is fine, and the compressor does NOT ever shut off because there is never enough presure to engage the presure switch.

Your max pressure switch is faulty, and shutting off the power early. replace switch, check owners manual for location(should be near power wires)

SOURCE: Mastercraft 2.0 hp air compressor will not build up over 25 psi

sounds like a bad or broken valves in the head. crankcase needs a vent which is sometimes a small hole drilled into the oil fill plug and will normally blow some air out the vent while it runs

Air compressor will not restart after it builds pressure and pressure drops to 80 psi

Make sure the power cord is plugged into an adequate extension cord if one must be used. Never less than 12 gauge wire.

The start/run capacitor may need to be replaced.. If there are any ball check type valves, make sure they are not worn or sticking. they would be on the output of the compressor head itself.

Brand new L3 builds to 25 psi then motor goes out on thermal overload.

Honestly if its new I would either return or ask for them to send someone out sounds like check-valve is letting air through witch is loading compressor.

My compressor will not go over 20 psi i have a craftsman 921 4 gal 125 psi compressor and it will not build past 20 psi i do not know how to get to the pistons and stuff what do i do?

The problem with compressors not building pressure is usually a bad pressure switch or bad regulator. Does the motor shut off at 20psi or does it continue running and not build pressure? If the motor continues to run with no increase in pressure, the you should go over the machine looking for air leaks from your regulator back all the way to the motor. Any air leak while the compressor is running can cause the pressure to "peak" way before the intended shutoff that it is regulated to.

Pressure in the tank only builds to 30 psi

Bad check valve. But I would check the regulator, by turning it down to about 10 PSI and running it and see if it builds again, if that works then it is the check valve. But from what you are saying I would replace the check valve anyways.
