In 2011 I bought new a Poulan Pro 30" 10HP snowblower which I have been having issues with. This year I have been having trouble starting it but was still able to use it. It runs smoothly and the throwing distance is great. Now when I crank it the compression violently yanks the pull cord out of my hands near TDC. I removed the flywheel, the pin is intact, no gouges on the spindle or the flywheel. I removed the spark plug and there is ample spark since it is a new one. Also I looked into the hole before replacing the plug and there is nothing abnormal. I know the crankshaft isn't bent cause it cranks smoothly with the spark plug removed. I removed the OHV cover and noticed the valves moving as they should. I've tried it with the choke in all positions and the fuel valve both open and closed. I also primed it as per the instructions. I examined the Run/Stop switch and it looks intact same with the start key trying it with both of them in all positions. There are no apparent broken or loose wires to any of the switches. The only thing I haven't tried is taking apart the fuel system since I fear my doing so may do more harm than good. How can I tell if the cylinder is getting any fuel and if not how do I fix this. BTW the electric start is no longer engaging the flywheel but I am willing to deal with this matter in a later post.
The carb is probably clogged up. Sounds like you are fairly handy... carefully remove it, keeping track of how it comes off so you can put it back on.
Soak it good in degreaser to disolve the gas deposits.
Then rinse it good with carb cleaner.
Then re-install it
I've had to do this to my line trimmer and my snowblower in recent years.
Testimonial: "I took it off and will have a friend clean it through his parts washer later this week"
