Insignia Digital-to-Analog Converter for Analog TVs Logo
Posted on Jun 13, 2009

I hooked up the converter box to my antenna and TV, turned both on, but never got the Welcome window and menu to set the thing up, that the instruction book said I should get. All I got was "no signal." What happened to the welcome screen and set up menu. I thought that was supposed to come up and walk me through the necessary steps to scan for channels etc. Anybody who knows the answer will rescue me from screaming, pulling out my hair, and upsetting the neighbors! Help! Dorothy

I don't know what converter box you have, but try these steps to see if they work:

1. Turn on your TV to channel 3 or 4.

2. Turn on your converter box.

3. On your converter's remote contro, press menu key.

4. A list of menu items appear. You can autoscan channel from there.

Connecting a sansui 13 inch to a converter box

1) Connect the converter box to a good digital TV antenna and position the antenna as high and as close to a window as possible.
2) Set the converter box 'output switch' to an unused channel for your area. (Usually 2, 3 or 4.)
3) Connect the output of the converter box to the 'antenna input' on the TV.
4) Turn on both units and set the TV channel to the same output channel selected above.
5) Now select TV channels using the converter box remote only. The TV should receive all converted channels on the preselected channel.
6) Adjust the TV antenna for the best reception for all channels.

I'm getting a great picture with my converter box, but no sound.

This may sound like a rediculous thing to ask you to do, but I've seen these types of things happen.

With the antenna to the box and the box to the antenna port on the TV setup, go into the TV menu - audio section and make sure that the speaker is set to 'ON'. Also, make sure that 'SAP' mode is not on.

Try plugging headphones in the headphone jack and see if you get audio there.

You should also check the instructions for your digital box to see if there is any audio modes that may need adjusting.

No welcome window, set up menu from Insignia converter box.

Make sure your TV is tuned to channel 3. If you don't see a picture from the converter box change the TV to channel 4 and check for the converter box output. If you continue to have a problem with the installation, the FCC has a hotline to help solve setup problems. They can even arrange for someone to come help with the setup at no charge to you. Call 1-888-CALL-FCC.

Converter box turns off by itself when watching tv.

Check the settings in the menu--many boxes have "power save" mode and will shut off after anywhere from 2-12 hours of inactivity. You should be able disable it or change it to a longer time.

''no signal'' is the only thing on the screen

Hi caroldove, I am happy to help. I don't have the model number of your tv so I will have to give generalized instruction.

From the tv menu make sure the tuning band is set to AIR or ANTENNA not Cable,
You will have to have a antenna connected to the tv, preferably an outdoor type, depending on how far you are from the broadcast tower you may be able to use Rabbitears.
From the tv menu do a Auto Channel Search, if any signals are within reach it should find them.
I have provided a link to a site with more information on antennas and direction they should face.

How do I connect an analog VCR + converter box to a digital TV?

first of all does your television and/or vcr have a cable connector and/or a set of rca outlets? if they have a cable connection in the back all you have to do is hook the cable from the antenna to the "in from antenna" on your cable box and then connect a cable from "out to tv" to "in from antenna" on the vcr and a cable from "out to tv" on the vcr to "in from antenna" on the tv. then you need to make sure on the converter box and the vcr and look for a channel selector and see what channel they are on. most vcr's have a selector for either channel 3 or 4, look at what channel it is set to and if your converter box has the same thing then match it with the vcr. then tune your tv to that channel and you should be able to work your vcr as long as the vcr/tv button shows that you are on the vcr. now if your tv and/or vcr have rca outlets and your converter box has the same then just hook the cable from the antenna to the cable box and substitute the rca cable for the regular cable and tune your tv to video or line input.

Want to use DTV converter with my Toshiba 32AF42

If you're not on cable or satellite, you will need an antenna to get off-the-air reception. This TV does not have a DTV tuner, so you will also need the converter box. Depending on how far you are from the broadcasters' transmitters, you might be able to get away with an indoor antenna. Or you might find that you get few channels with the inside antenna and then you'll need something outdoors. There are a number of styles to choose from.

The antenna hooks to the converter box, and the converter box then goes to the TV. It can be hooked to the TV's "ANTENNA" connector. This should be covered in the set's manual where it shows you how to connect a regular antenna. With the box, your TV will always stay on channel 3 or 4 (depends on how you set up the box) and you'll change channels on the converter.

You can also connect the converter to the TV with audio and video cables like you would a DVD player. Most of the "coupon-eligible" converter boxes include direct video and audio output jacks. This gives you better picture and sound quality than by hooking it to the TV's antenna input.

Hooking up a converter box is like going back in time to when cable TV was new and you had to get a converter box from your cable company. Same way of hooking it up. Hope this helps!

Lost the Welcome/Installation Menu

http://www.ezdigitaltv.com/support-files/ns_dxa1_manual.pdf

All you have to do is use the auto tuning function. Your remote control has a menu button, you can get to the feature via the on-screen menu.

If you press the menu button while the box is on and you see no menu, change your television's input to match what the box's output is.

Hooking up a convertor , when i have a vcr, dvd player

You can hook it up through the antennae system. Keep your dvr connected to the tv the way you had it. Hook up your TV rabbit ears antennae to the converter box in the connection on the left side of the box. Then hook up the antennae lead from the converter box to your TV on the right side connector. The only thing I'm wondering is, do you get stereo sound this way and does anyone know how to get it without hooking up the separate audio and video plugs? There aren't enough connections on the tv to hook up both sets.
