Chris, what happens when you plug the hdmi connector into the TV and your adapter, while your computer is running and connected to the adapter?
Are there drivers required for the adapter?
As an alternative, you could install a video board in your Dell that includes an HDMI output. I have a laptop with one, and connect it to my TV often; works fine.
Try another monitor. If you have the same results the is the PC.
Enter the Bios (press F2 key) and find the option to reset the bios default and see if this corrects the problem. If not then more truobleshooting is needed.
Hi, on most Dells a flashing amber light on the power button indicates a problem with the PSU or a short on the main power rail, if this is the case you should have 2 flashing lights as well, 1 & 3.
I'm guessing that you're trying to connect to another CPU screen or a TV via HDMI... This is what you need to do (If you're running Windows 7).
1) Open Control Pannel
2) In the search bar in the upper right hand corner type "Connect to a projector" (Without the quotations)
3) Select the option Connect to a projector
4) A selection box will appear. Select the option that you want.
This might be related to the power settings, open the power settings in Control panel, if this is set to Balanced then this will include power down of the HDD, select the change plan settings option and then click the Change advanced power settings, now select the HDD option and set this to never, save the changes and then close the open windows..
