How to get a new entenna for a FR4400 weather radio

Find a local store that sells a compatible antenna . Any electronics store might have it. If you can't find a local store look for an online one. Go to their website, order the merchandise and pay for it.

you do not "set" swr.you cannot set it on the radio. the radio can tell you what yourswr is. it can take an swr measurement. swr has to do with the antenna system. in order for the radio waves to radiate from the antenna properly, the physical length of the antenna must match the length of the radio waves. if the antenna is too long or too short you will have a higher swr ratio. the higher the ratio the less energy will leave the antenna. but that energy needs to go somewhere, so it goes back into the radio which causes damage and can ruin a radio.

first turn the channel to 20. then switch the meter switch to CAL. then key the radio. while keyed, turn the CAL knob up until the needle in the meter gets right to the CAL Mark. next flip the meter switch and key the radio. where ever he needle is, is what your swr is.if it is more the 1.5 that's getting high. if its over 2 you are in the danger zone. if its over 3 you are damaging your radio. you must repeat the calibration proceedure for every channel.to figure out weather your antenna is too long or short, you compare the swr readings from channel 1 and ch 40. if the swr is higher in 1 then on 40 the entenna is too short. if its higher on 40 then 1 its to long.

First thing look in owners manual for fuse, radio is on different fuse then light display, most likely it is a fuse.

This means that the weather radio has not received the weekly test signals for over a week. Turn the radio off and then back on. Next set the radio to announce the current weather (on my unit the button is marked Weather) and listen to the broadcast. If you do not hear the broadcast, move the radio until you do.

If you can't get a good signal, check the NOAA site for your coverage area to see if the local emergency alert broadcast towers are under repair. If needed try one of the other towers that cover your county. Sometimes you may get one location better than the others if you are near the edge of the county or are surrounded by hills. http://www.weather.gov/nwr/Maps/ has the maps by state and those link to the frequency of each tower that can be heard in a given county.

If the radio still fails to hear the test alerts, you may need an external antenna or a new radio. (Caution: the external antenna may hear a more distant tower and not give your local alert. We got the wrong state on one radio.)

We had severe weather a few days ago and only the in-state tower broadcast the severe weather watch. The local television stations displayed different watches and warnings depending on which NOAA coverage area they checked.)

Chk. for a poor connection wear entenna plugs into radio, it could have corrosion or it could just be loose.

The radio won't get TV sound anymore after the switch. And no, nobody is selling a digital receiver for the TV sound yet. All this radio is good for now is regular broadcasting and the weather band.

Pull cd player and make sure entenna is plugged in fully. Also make sure the entenna is completely tightened. You can easily unscrew entenna to replace.

At the main menu press settings
press FM Transmitter
Turn transmitter on by pressing off. Will change to On
Press the Frequency button. Than change the frequency to one that doesnt have a radio station.
All sounds from the GPS will now be transmitted to the frequency set. Make sure your FM radio is set to the same frequency.

With my one vehicle this option does not work very well & is full of static because my radio entenna is at the rear of the car. The GPS only transmits a couple of feet.

I believe it is just a China import; I would give up and just get one from Radio Shack instead - I know how you would like to get it right, but I would send a decent letter to Bass Pro Shops along with a copy of your receipt from Radio Shack and ask them to refund you - it might work.
