SOURCE: 0701 usb over current on hc/port error

I had the same problem on a toshiba satellite u400.
Usb over current on port ... blabla..
Please press F1 to resume or F12 to install.
F1 just ended up in a screen asking to press F2 or F12 which did nothing.
F12 did nothing.

Rebooting the pc ended in a black screen with a flickering HD symbol.

To be able to boot again on the BIOS I had to remove the battery and disconnect the plug.
Once It restarted booting on the error USB over current.

Si I took a USB mouse and tried to boot with the mouse plugged in on port , then another ... at the third port the PC booted normally with no error :)

Don't have any idea why it became faulty but it's now solved for me.

SOURCE: Pxe-e61: media test failure, operating system not found

First, take out any CDs/DVDs and try to boot again. If that doesn't work, your hard drive may be defective.

There will be a cover on the bottom of your laptop that holds the hard drive (easy access). You can try removing and reinserting the hard drive and then booting the PC afterward.

If that doesn't work, you will likely have to replace the hard drive, but best advice would be to take it to a computer technician for further analysis.

Cannot connect with webex

"Over current" means you are drawing too much current from that port. If you have several USB devices attached at the same time it may be that you have too many and the system cannot supply the current needed. OR your machine isn't putting out enough current. Try unplugging everything but what you absolutely need.

Experiencing following on boot: Lenovo 3000 C200 PC Notebook Error 0701 usb current hc port. Both USB ports disabled. Any advice on remedy.

Kindly set the BIOS on start up. You may have disabled the USB. If the matter persists then check the drivers in the device manager if they are correctly installed. Or if the problem is your Operating System then have it updated by installing online updates. This would install necessary drivers. If the problem still persists then, look for a computer technician to check your laptop.

Hardware problem - not booting into windows

One of your usb ports is either damaged or has an object stuck in it causing a short. Unplug all usb devices and look at each port. Note if one looks slightly different from the others. There is a plastic tab that fits into usb plugs. If this tab is bent and touches the side of the port, it can cause the short. If this is the case you may be able to either clean out or bend back the bent tab.

Hardware problem - not booting into windows

tosrisri hello,

If you have a VISTA DVD, please insert it, and use the BIOS to boot through your CD.
Then, when the VISTA installation comes up, press repair. Restart, and try again. Please report back.
