The auto-focus might be bad. Set to manual focus and see if that works. If not, then the focus motor is slipping or the motor itself is bad and cannot focus the lens properly.
On digital cameras it is always best to press the button half way down before taking the picture. This helps the camera focus, thus preventing blurry images. Always, always press the button half way down. Secondly, if you are still getting blurry pictures, there is a possiblity that the sensor in your camera is bad. I don't know how old your camera is or how long you've had it, but you would need to send it for repair, exchange it, or if it's under warranty maybe they'll send you a new one.
I have the exact same problem. When I was in NY last fall, suddenly my camera would only take blurry pictures. I hadn't changed any settings or anything. I can get halfway decent pictures in Auto mode, but any of the other settings only take blurry pictures. Apparently a lot of people have this problem, but no one knows how to solve it...
typically if camera is not set to autofocus, pictures come out blurry. make sure to put autofocus on. when u put autofocus on, u usually need to press button twice to take picture.( 1st to set autofucus, 2nd time to take picture) hope this helps ur issue.
Gently clean the lens or get it cleaned at a camera store. I suspect fingerprints on the glass. If this isn't it, the camera's infrared sensor may be malfuntioning or dirty, or the lens assembly is not functioning properly (warranty).
You're both right. The pictures are blurry because the shutter speed is too slow, but it's too slow because there isn't enough light for it to be faster.
Try this:
Set the ISO to 800
Set the camera at shutter priority mode, and enter 1/160 for wide angle to mid-zoom, and 1/400 for full zoom.
If the pictures come out too dark ( and you're too far to use the flash ), you can always brighten them on the computer. But if they're blurry, you can't really fix that.
