My son didnt down his password when setting up his new asus laptop, how can we reset it to factory settings?

Check the jumper for the bios, it may be set for clear. (not an uncommon boo - boo). Move the jumper back to default pins.

Hi lmscorp, to clear the cmos/bios find the cmos battery which is to the right of the main ATX 20-pin power connector & near right edge of the motherboard. Just above the,
CHA_FAN, (Chassis 3-pin Fan connector).

You'll find the cmos location on page 14. You'll also need Adobe PDF reader to view the manual. Download Adobe from here;

The manual does not show a clear shot of the cmos jumpers. You may need to remove the battery completely for 10 seconds. While the battery is out check its voltage. If it measures under 3volts replace it.

If you have the recovery agent installed once you press the power on button press the "r" key repeatedly and the recovery agent will start .
if not you are going to have to use your recovery disks, I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE THEM. if not contact the manufacture of the computer for these ok

Run the recovery software in the programs menu and fallow the prompts.

Your original install disk should be able to reset your unit back to factory settings
Power on your laptop, and press the "F9" key when you see the logo screen.
A menu will pop up with a list of three options.
Select the "Restore Factory Settings" option (which is the last one in the menu).
Select "Yes" when prompted, then hit the "Enter" key to confirm the reboot.
Wait about 30 seconds for the system to restart, then agree to the licensing agreement when prompted.
Confirm your name, password and time and date when prompted.
Then wait as your computer configures.
