Tea lights are a common way of heating up fondue pots but you can also use alchohol fondue fuel or fondue gel which help keep the food hot and the cheese liquefied, but as they are highly flammable you have to be very careful about spillages.

How to make a good chocolate fondue

There is nothing more fun than inviting a bunch of friends over, creating a wonderful chocolate fondue with a great selection of fruits and goodies to dip into it and then just enjoying yourself along with a nice glass of wine.

So here is a basic recipe for a good chocolate fondue;

12 ounces of dark chocolate (I prefer to use really good quality chocolate)
8 ounces of heavy cream
Pinch of salt (do not leave this out)
Things for dipping such as fruit, dried fruit, biscotti, bread, marshmallows.

Method:
Warm the cream gently over a medium heat. Do not boil the cream, just wait till you see tiny bubbles.
Add the chocolate and whisk until it is all mixed in.
Put the mixture into a fondue pot and heat it on a low flame.
Put the dippables onto a big plate with fondue forks etc and enjoy.

For a slight twist, add some alcohol such as Baileys irish cream to the chocolate mixture.

Do you need a special fondue pot to heat up oil?

Generally a fondue pot can be used for many types of fondue ie meat, cheese etc. but if you're a fan of meat fondues that involve very hot oil to cook the meat, I would suggest buying a hot oil fondue set as it can withstand much hotter temperatures.

What is an electric fondue set?

A more traditional fondue involves putting a pot on top of a candle which keeps the contents of the pot hot. But a newer innovation is an electric fondue set which you just plug in and it keeps the pot heated at a constant temperature - you can choose the temperature to set it to.

What is a fondue? Someone at work spoke about it and i wasn't sure what it is.

Fondue is a dish that involves melted foods in a pot that is kept warm while other foods are dipped into the pot.
Traditionally it began with cheese but now chocolate fondues are incredibly popular too with people dipping fruit etc into the chocolate. some people even have hot oil fondues and use the hot oil to dip raw meat into the pot which is then cooked by the heat of the oil.

I just purchased a chocolate fondue fountain without a manual. where do I put the chocolate? How long does it take to heat?

Put the chocolate in the bottom. Read the box to make sure you don't have to use a specific kind of chocolate. Depending on how much chocolate you are heating and whether it is already liquid when cold would determine heating time but usually 15-20 minutes would be the minimum time.

Hi I also have an avanti fondue set and do not now what fuel to use in it

The burner needs fuel so go to a hardware store and get some.
Don't put the ceramic straight onto the flame, it will crack.
Use the stainless steel bowl for oil heating only.
The Ceramic bowl sits inside the stainless steel bowl.
