A/C has Mind Of It's Own

Have a 6 month old Dometic A/C on Roof of rv. It seems that just the compressor comes on every 10 minutes or so and runs for 3 or 4 minutes and shuts off. It does this with the ac in the on position or off position. I can only stop it by turning off the 120 volt breaker.Other than that the Air conditioner works fine.It this some sort of cycling thing or is something broken.

Want to check for leaks and recharge a dometic rv roof unit 2007 compressior kicks in and out and not cold

They are a sealed unit, and you would have to get a Refrigeration tech to install valves to do so, which usually costs close to replacing upper unit (roof unit).
A few things come to mind in your case.
- Are you getting proper 120 AC Voltage?
- Has unit been cleaned recently, as in filter, evaporator, condenser ? Any of these plugged can cause it to shut down.
- is it freezing up due to improper flow from discharge ducts, as in have you closed too many ? Remove filter at ceiling and have a look at coils/fins, at front for frost forming on them when it shuts down.
- How long does it run before compressor kicks out, and how long before it comes back on?
- Does it feel cool when compressor kicks in?

Get back to me with more info if you can, so we can narrow it down better.

I have a Dometic Duo Therm rv Roof Air Conditioner Model# 59516.531.The fan is blowing and the compressor is kicking on but it is not blowing out cold air. Someone said it must be out of freon. Why would...

These are a closed system.(meaning that there is no fill valves for recharging) But a heating & cooling technician can solder them on and re-charge the system. Only problem there is to get an estimate up front, and compare it to buying a new roof unit which also comes with a new warranty, as well as keep in mind that the freon went somewhere, so there is an obvious leak that will need to be addressed as well. Most times it's wiser and cheaper in long run just to buy a new roof unit.
Are you sure that the compressor is kicking in? Did anyone remove cover on roof and check lines from compressor to see if any cooling is occurring?
These don't often leak, that's why I'm asking. Any idea how old the unit is?
Perhaps in fairly new, it's a warranty issue.

Relay (?) sticking Dometic RV rooftop AC

Go up on the roof of the unit and remove the AC Shroud. With the unit running, see if you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from. The only thing on the entire AC that would make that much of a vibration would be the fan motor. Not sure what would cause the fan motor to do this. The compressor may do that but only if the windings are bad and then it would not be cooling.

FAN SHUTS OFF BUT COMPRESSOR KEEPS RUNNING - 6 MONTHS OLD

Depending upon the model of your air conditioner, this may be normal operation.

My newer Dometic air conditioner will run the compressor in a "reverse" mode without the fan occasionally in order to heat the coils. This is done to defrost the coils. After the frost is gone, the fan switches back on and everything goes back to normal.

Compressor tries to start but want

hi,
you have to run a contractor grade extension cord(10-12 gauge) from your rv to run those or theyll do that, the lower the gauge the better, best bet is to plug the rv directly into the outlet, if you cant, get the shortest and thickest extension cord you can.
