1996 Jetta Treck - overheating

1996 VW Jetta Trek - 4 cyclinder - radiator fan does not come on unless A/C is on. Car will overheat if not running A/C. I've read a bit but still not sure... Would I look at Radiation Fan Switch or Fan Control Module first? I did check the fuses above the fan control module and they seem fine.....

I would check the radiator fan switch, about $10-20.

yes vw is very dependant on the cooling fan coolant pressure and expecially coolant mixture, check the gasket on the expansionbottle, as that can cause problems too, anyone of these will result in overheating

1996 vw jetta vr6 keeps overheating,

Get another boyfriend! "Just kidding"! ok, this is what I mean about "leaving it to the experts". #1 Make sure there is enough coolant, Check for leaks. Install a coolant pressure tester and check for leaks. Fix whats leaking. #2 Make sure coolant fans are coming on, and specifically at 220 degrees. If not, check fuses. Jump the coolant fan to make sure it comes on. if it does, then you may have a bad relay, make sure relay is commanded on. At this point , you may need a wire schematic for the coolant fans and related parts.

95 VW Jetta is overheating

You'll have to remove the radiator (it isn't that hard) and take it to a Yellow Page listed radiator repair shop...Be prepared to spend $200, less if you're lucky...Don't forget to put water pump lube (NAPA #13 - looks like milk) in the radiator after replacing the fluid 50/50 mix

Overheats and won't start

You could change the thermostat and the fan temperature sensor which should be on the radiator. Then top up with a mixture of antifreeze and water pertaining to your location and VW guide lines. If nothing else, this advice will ensure that the thermostat will open and close and that the assuming the radiator fan motor is working, will come on and cool down the radiator.
