The tangential blower fan in the top rear has an RPM speed sensor on it. The sensor sends a pulse to the control board at each revolution. If the control board detects that the pulses are coming in too slowly, it will show error 160. The blower may have too much friction in its bearing(s). I took the outboard white plastic bearing off (behind the red rubber) and cleaned it with a Q-tip. I also scraped some deposits off of the metal blower wheel shaft (need a strong magnifier to see this). Then I added light machine oil to the felt oil sponge at the bottom of the hole in the bearing. The blower then ran much faster, and no error!
Error 160 is the error code that corresponds to the fact that a new controller board has been installed, but not yet programmed to your model of appliance. Companies now tend to use a standard board for multiple models, and upon installation it needs to be "programmed" to tell the board which model it is. This is a simple step, but usually involves pushing a couple of buttons at the same time, then selecting your model number from a pre-programmed set of options. The instructions should come with the new board, or the company can provide if you can get them on the phone.

I have the HES 576 I got the same code 160, oven goes into preheat and then shuts down with error 160. Called Bosch and they said it was an unidentified error, told me to call sears I did and it is being replaced with a Kenmore Elite!
Bought new interface board after tech said that was the original problem. I installed it correctly and get the error 160 alarm after I start the oven.
Is it the PC board instead?
