Problems after PCMOVER with MS APPS (Office and MSN)

"Used PCmover to migrate between old XP PRO SP3 with office 2003 machine w/partitioned drive (in poor shape) to new XPPro Sp3 with MS Office small business"

Mostly went OK - but some apps, notably Word don't always populate on the Program list. Should I reload Office 2007? Should I completely uninstall it first?

Also MSnet initially was kluged - i reset the IN settings but I'm not convinced its solid. Same question - should I go to MS and figure out how to upload a fresh edition?

SOURCE: pcmover cannot find my new

w5yes.

If you are attempting to connect two machines together using only an Ethernet cable this will not work - Ethernet cables are not designed to be used this way. The only way this will work if the computers are connected to a network.

See: http://www.laplink.com/help/faqs_data/pcmover/181.html

If you do not have a network may I suggest you look to purchasing a transfer cable from PMmover.

Good Luck

What do I need to get my XP platinum 8 cards from my XP computer to my new 8.1 computer?

Thomas, I'm not quite sure I understand your question, but . . .

If you're asking how to move your old graphics cards from the old XP machine to your new computer, that will either be easy or impossible, depending..

Oh, we're talking about software, not hardware. If you no longer have the original install disks, you may want to check out this product: "PC Mover". It's what I use to move data and programs from computer to computer:

PCmover Limited Time Offer branded pcmover 012014 Laplink Software

If you have both system on a network, it becomes easy. Install on both boxes, and tell it what to move. done.

Files and settings transfer

What sort of problems are you encountering ?

Since newer versions of hardware, computers and operating systems like Microsoft Windows frequently hit the market, most of us are tempted to upgrade our computers. While upgrading your computer or new version of Microsoft Windows, you may find it a hassle to move all the files and settings to the new computer. Transferring files, user settings and applications to a new computer takes days if done manually. There are, however, a few ways of transferring files and settings successfully.

Windows Easy Transfer Wizard Transferring files between computers or operating systems is a long process and some files may not be fully transferred if you lack technical expertise. Windows Easy Transfer Wizard helps simplify the process for transferring files to new computers. It is a built-in migration tool within Windows. This tool provides an interface for such migration and does so with a comprehensive wizard that takes you on a guided tour of the process. It can be accessed by clicking on the "Start" menu, then "Accessories," then "System Tools" and then "Windows Easy Transfer." All files transferred will be restored in a similar way as they were on your old computer. This method is only useful for solving problems with transferring files, not settings. b> Laplink PCMOVER b> The migration of settings can be more of a problem than that of transferring files. Settings like registry values, user preferences or activation keys are difficult to move without a transfer tool. Laplink's PCMOVER is a tool used for the transfer of files and settings from PC to PC. This software application has a comprehensive wizard that allows you to transfer user settings, personal files and programs with settings. It can be used with any Microsoft Windows-based computer and you can also use it while transferring between operating systems. A PCMOVER will create a backup-type image file that can then be moved by a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. It provides a fast and efficient file and settings transfer. b> Other Transfer Methods b> There are other ways to transfer Windows files and settings to avoid leaving data behind, as well. One is by the means of an Easy Transfer Cable, which is a USB-to-USB bridge cable that connects two computers together. You can also use a USB flash drive, an external hard disk drive or a CD/DVD for transferring files and settings -- though all these means are time consuming. Most users also use a wireless network for migrating files and settings. Software applications are preferred over all these methods, however, because they are cost-effective and they take less time in transferring. b> Solutions for other Transfer Problems b> While transferring files and settings with the help of software applications, other problems may arise. There are solutions for these problems as well. One of the problems commonly faced by users is that some settings may not be transferred. To prevent this problem, you must install that program before you run the Windows Easy Transfer. Another problem faced is some files transferred are unreadable on the new computer. This occurs when a program for that file type has not been installed in the new computer yet. At times, users may see files or settings not being transferred at all. This will occur only when the files are not compatible with that version of Windows. Hope this helps.

Windows 7 conversion windows xp soft wear

I assume you want to go from XP to Win7 which is not supported by Microsoft.
Laplink make an excellent and cheap product called pcmover Upgrade Assistant which does the job brilliantly on either the same PC or moving to another and upgrading to Win7.
http://www.laplink.com/pcmover/
You install it on the XP system and save a small file it generates. Then install Win7 as a custom install (without formatting) and re-install pcmover. Select the file you saved and a couple of minutes later pretty much everything is back under the new system ( afew things may need redoing like some drivers, AV software etc. but it's minimal)
Have used this on a number of conversions from XP and Vista to Win7 and it works great.

Was given a second-hand versa LX..

Get a copy and install windows 2000 professional with the service pack 4, the most XP-compatible OS. You'll need 256MB of RAM minimum for everyday/internet use or it will run slowly.
Then install your normal apps, firefox, MSN Messenger (V7.5, not LIVE), office 2003, etc.
Some MS apps (Like office 2007, MSN Live messenger) will ***** about not having XP, just install an older version.
