I'm trying to pinpoint a leak of oil from under the engine. I've put a piece of cardboard on the garage floor, placed it just forward of the front axel line to help locate its origin. Due to minimal ground clearence, I am unable to crawl underneath to witness as it drips. Losing about 1 quart of oil every two months, and it does not burn oil. I've cleaned off the visible road grime and checked the dip stick connection bolt, oil pan plug, head gasket bolts, and all are tight. With the age and mileage of this 4cyl '01 Cavalier, is there an oil additive to assist in locating this leak ?

Your posting does not include what settings on what you are referring to

Look at the blower resistor block. That's what control the speed. It is generally located next to the motor. Look for electrical wires connected to it.

I am surprise your valve covers aren't leaking.

You have two other places to look at.

Look at the oil pressure switch. Sometimes it will leak.

Look at the rear oil seal on the engine. This of course can not be seen, since it is between the engine and transmission. But will will leak after awhile.

Looking for a wiring diagram of the Blower motor switch on the dash 1998 Oldsmobile 88

It would probably be hard to find the pinout for the switch itself. These switches are pretty easy to check with a multimeter though, using the resistance setting. With the switch in the lowest setting, there should be continuity between only two of those blades. One of them is the input to the switch, and the other would be the output to the motor. Turn the switch to the next position and check continuity again. There should only be continuity between two blades again. The one that is the same as the first check is the common input blade to the switch. Now that you know which blade is the input, you can check continuity to the other four blades by moving the switch knob.

Is there an intermitten wiper controller on this vehicle?

The wipers are directly controlled by the wiper switch. If you are confident the switch is good and you have checked the wiring to the motor and it is good than the wiper motor/module has failed.

Fan motor will only work when the switch is in the highest speed position

Having the year, make, model, and engine size would help.

But generally when this occurs it is a bad motor resistor. The resistor uses a set of resistors in series to drop voltage to control blower speed. The lowest setting uses all the resistors and the setting below high speed uses on resistor. Since none of the lower speeds work either the resistor for the setting just below high is burned out or the internal fuse has blown. Replacing the blower motor resistor should take care of the problem.

My Air conditioner only works on high

The switch that runs the blower motor for air and heat sends the DC voltage through some big resisters when it isn't set on high. (On high it sends all the power to the motor.)
If the lowest speed doesn't work then one of the resisters has gone bad, or come disconnected. If more than 1 speed doesn't work then a differant resister has gone bad or disconnected. The power runs through each resister in series so the most common one to go bad is the second to highest speed. when this resister is bad thaen it will only work on the highest setting. Replacing the switch won't fix it. You will have to find the resister that is bad and replace it.
The resister bank is usually tucked up behind the dash where only a kid can focus his eyes, and contort himself enough to see it.
Once the resister is replaced it should run perfectly.
Presto.

Air conditioner

The most common failure is the blower motor resistor located under the dash on the right side near the blower motor. Remove the panel under the dash to gain access. disconnect the connector to the resistor( its a four wire connector that appears to plug into the duct). Using a test light connected to voltage touch the terminals on the tan, light blue and purple wires while turning the switch from med 1, med 2 and high. If the test light lights up as you do this the resistor is bad. Remove the two retaining screws the remove the resistor.
