Motherboard repair Dear Experts, I bought Asus Motherboard 1year ago. It has been working well untill last March when it suddenly stopped: it did not start at all. I have returned it to the shop as it has 3 years warrentry. It came back with working propery for 1 time, but when I tried second time. It did not work. When I connect the power supply unit, it automatically starts without swithing on the power switch. No bios comes up. it constantly stay powered on. I have taken off the battery on motherboard some times and reset the bios by replacing the jumper. Now, the question is, is it worth returning this motherboard again even spending £7,00 postage or is this motherboard totally dead? I have replaced harddisk. Has harddisk got something to do with motherboard's problem? Please advise. Regards / Shin Motherboard: ASUS M2V-MXSE OS: Windows XP CPU:AMD Athlon 64x2 2GB RAM internal HD Westerndigital 40GB SATA-HD Hitachi 80GB

Best thing to do is to make sure only the CPU, Power Supply and memory are hooked up to the motherboard and then turn it on and see if you get video. If you don't get video then it probably is the motherboard that is bad and it wouldn't be worth your time spendingany more postage on it.

Also check the capacitors on your motherboard and see if any of them are bulging from the top, if they are then you might want to try and replace those with capacitors of the same value.

My feeling though is that the motherboard is bad and you would need to get a new one.

The power supply unit should be scrutinized in order to make sure correct voltages - (+/- 3.3, 5, and 12) are supplied. Detach every cable connecting resources like DVD-ROM drive, Hard Drive(s), Floppy disk drive, etc, from the motherboard. Remove also any expansion cards, including VGA. I recommend you use the onboard VGA. If you can lay hand on any 512Mb RAM, that is preferred. However, you can use the RAM modules already on it but one at a time. Make sure the CMOS jumper(if any) is set on NORMAL. If at the end of these exercises nothing positve happened, is time to return the board. Good luck

I have an Asus Zenpad,1year old. Yesterday suddenly it tablet frozeon automatic update, Completely stopped, now have only screen Asus logo circle dots spinning nothing else Thanks Marie

Hi,
To reset it you should hold the power button until the pc shuts off. Then restart it and let the updates continue. If it still tries to update, just let it sit and finish. Do not restart it. It should restart itself. Worst comes to worst and it is bad still, post another msg on here and we can go into safe mode to turn auto updates off. Good luck!

Based on what you have said, you may be right that you might be having a motherboard issue. As for me it would be much better to take the computer to a local technician and have it fix.

To determine if the keyboard is faulty ot the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard is faulty, connect an USB keyboard to your laptop. If this USB keyboard functions correctly then the laptop keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If this keyboard also malfunctions the the fault is on the laptop's motherboard.
You may be able to get it repaired under warranty.

ASUS 1005HA netbook suddenly always restarts

Good day sir/maam, the sudden restart of you notebook, may be cause by a sudden fluctuation of AC mains, it could also be cause by other sources such as nearby machineries. which boils down to the notebook's power supply module. Is it capable of supplying good descent power to your notebook. Try moving to other places, such as well at work or any place where you think there is stable power. Hope this helps. thanks

My P5PE-VM sound card suddenly stopped working.

if you cannot reinstall it or it is installed correctly that means that your sound card is in fact broken =(. you will need to replace it. soundcards are generally inexpensive depending on what you will be using it for.

The machine doesn't work

Is your load within capacity. See that it is. Press and hold 'spin' & 'dry' for 5 or 6 seconds to unlock controls. Try the machine on a normal cycle once, see if it works.
