Possibly the micro switch which is activated when the lid is turned into position. Sometimes a particle of food gets lodged in the opening and prevents the lid from engaging the switch.
Or maybe the wires in the plug have come loose.
We have a Cuisinart and these tools are very rugged- so I doubt that the motor is bad. My only suggestion would be to make sure that the safety catch is being actuated when you click the cover clockwise to secure the mixing chamber. There is a hole in the housing that the acuator pin sticks into to disengage the safety switch. Perhaps the switch is not being pressed off.
