Hello Nancy Poehl,
No model number came through with you question... and
Pilotless (SEARS) ignitions have been around since the 1970's
so I can't speculate well... Mine was the ignitor itself
(when it DIDN'T GLOW... I put my finger on the surface
and EAZILY FOUND the break in the hot surface DEVICE...
passing over 120 Volts AC (not a recommended process).
Simply replacing that VERY INEXPENSIVE item ...
got us easily back in service.
Again... without a MODEL NUMBER... this is wild speculation
(albeit a good guess).
Sorry to point you in the direction of SEARS (parts direct: below)... I think they are often pushy and expensive... but the LIBRARY & on-line documents are very good...
Make sure you get three estimates before buying any parts...

Solenoid kits are cheap- I replaced mine and fixed my dryer with just a screwdriver and about $12. Old ones let a little flame go on first light, telltale sign. Take the bottom cover off and watch the flame.
The glow igniter should light up and after a delay the sensor will click and turn on the gas valve. If the gas doesn't flow and light the cycle will repeat.
Most likely you need a gas valve coil kit. The coils get weak and wont open the gas valve.

There is a flame sensor on the side of the flame housing. Jump the 2 wires out and see if the ignitor glows then. If so you need a flame sensor.
SOURCE: maytag gas dryer, no heat, ignitor wont glow
The machine will check all safety features first. check the overlimit by the burner. It may have a reset. If not, turn power off and check continuity (ohms). Good luck.
SOURCE: Ignitor does not glow
the flame sensor rarely goes bad
if the ignitor is not glowing
then thats the problem
take an amp reading it shoud be between
2.7 and 3.6 out of that range it will not glow
if your not getting a reading you need to chase your voltage l1 is you most likely culprit
Testimonial: "Thanks"
SOURCE: I have a kenmore 400 series dryer model no heat
Srart by pulling each thermostat wires and tape them together until you find the bad one. You should have 3 of them to test.
