Jenn air jed8430ADW worth fixing

2 switches need repairing - maybe due to infinity switch like someone else mentioned. Quoted $320 for the job? Is it worth it or should buy a new one. It was just installed in winter 2005. Thanks

Looked up switches and they sale for about $35 thru jenn air, seems steep for repair and if you know which ones are bad and know how to work on things then I would suggest saving some headache and money in this case. Simply paying attention to #1 safety <power off> #2 how it is assembled < screw placement, wires> savings would be big deal to most homes. If you're not interested in doing this then just remember it lasted four years without fail and new ones could take you that long again. The downside is there are two more and four used burners as well. I don't feel it is my place to tell you best answer for you because we all have different situations. I would keep it because I can simply fix it for a reasonable cost, but not all of us can do that.If you don't keep it sale it to used appliance place and at least get something out of it for the trouble.

I have a Jenn-air JGD8130 gas cook top. One side with 2 burners works fine. The other side gets gas but no spark. When I try and ignite the upper burner, it sparks the upper burner on the other side....

Hi,
With the information you gave me I researched this particle number you supplied. (8 possible different model) Th side that is not working has a wiring issue with the controls (knob have switches under the surface) there is a possible short within the harness to that side of the burners. I assume you have used this cartridge on the other side to rule out the cartridge. If this information is true, you will need either a good handy person or a service tech to assist you in this repair. There really is no simple fix without locating the power loss within the unit. (Could be a loss wire, to a burnt harness or even bad switches) Either way someone needs to look inside to locate issue.
If you can, unplug the unit access the burner valves and send me pictures, I would be glad to assist you if I could see issues within the pictures.

How do I change out the Switch on a gas cook top -Jenn-Air JGC9430ADS

if you mean the switch under the knob,
you can open up, drill, the switch and clean up and use it again, uless the copper parts are burned out.

to get to the switch, most likely have to unscrew all the screws holding the top and the bottom together, most likely the screws will be on the top, by the gas burner on each burner. and may need to check the sides for additional screws .

if you go step by step , its pretty easy.
maybe you should look up on you tube for demo.

I ordered a replacement switch for the JED8430ADW. The previous switch was 7403P406-60. The replacement switch is 12002125. I have no clue how to re-connect the wiring. it looks nothing like the old...

There was a design change related to this switch. I had the same problem earlier today and figured it out by getting the schematics from searspartsdirect.com. There are two different schematics there (in English). The old schematic is labeled "DIAGRAM NO. 8104P688-60". The new one has five notes in the lower left (that don't help). The key is to split out the red wire coming back from the double burner element. The old way had it connected to "N" along with the RED source power. The new way has it connected to terminal "2" all by itself with the RED source power now connected to terminal "P2". But in addition, you have to add an extra jumper wire that should have come with your new switch that goes from "P1" to "S1". The other connections simply move from the old switch to the new where the locations can be seen on the schematics by referencing the wire colors (example: TAN wire moves from the old "3" to the new "4", etc.). If you are not 100% sure of what you are doing - you shouldn't try this. A wrong wire in the wrong place can short out 240V when you throw the breaker (boom!). Good luck. -- Mark.

Water boiled over into control knobs for the cook top elements.

Just fixed this problem and repaired the corner of the Ceran cooktop.

Disclaimer: These cooktops run on 220V and will kill you if you don't know how to work with electricity. If you're unsure, get some help.

The boiling water slopped out of your pot, and went over to your controls (knobs) and went down the shaft and into a component call "Infinity Switch". The water caused the switch internally to weld one of the two internal sets of contact points into a permanent position. The fix is to replace the
"Infinity Switch" that the boiling water spilled into. The Infinity switch is the component that the control knob slides on to.

In my cooktop one of the infinity switches failed and appears to damage the adjacent switch. Mine actually caught on fire and damaged the wiring and the connector. Hopefully you are better off. Since they were in such close proximity I replaced them both. For $20 you might consider the same. I replaced both to be safe and they were $21.47 each.

My cooktop has 4 elements 2 small, 1 large and 1 combined (small and large) surface. A large element was definitely damaged and possibly a small element. I ordered both. I mention this in case a multi-element was damaged on your cooktop.

You will need to contact either Jenn-Air or someone. Since you can't see an exploded parts list online, you'll have to use the schematic. It is in a plastic sleeve and it stuck to the side of the ventilator housing underneath the cooktop.

When you wire the new part in, make sure you have the wiring correct or when you turn it back on you will burn up the new part.

I hope this helps.
