In this process your hard drive will be formatted, so back up all files to another hard drive, laptop, or be prepared to lose everything on your hard drive. After you have backed everything up, plug your hard drive into an Xbox 360 then go 'My Xbox/System Settings/Memory.Select 'USB Storage Device/Configure Now' then accept the warning. After the formatting is complete a Performance Warning box will appear, click 'OK.' Now in the 'Storage Devices' screen you should see a new option 'Memory Unit.' This shows that the formatting was successful. Disconnect your hard drive, then connect it to your laptop, load on some media (makes sure the file types are compatible), then reconnect it to your Xbox 360. Your selected media should not appear under 'Portable Device' in the Video/Music/Picture Library.
If you enter the passcode incorrectly, you get the option to reset the pass code if you set it up with a security question, and remember the answer.
If that isn't an option, you can try calling the Xbox people (1-800-4-MY-XBOX [this is the US number]), and they will be able to help you. (RECOMMENDED)
If you don't feel like dealing with them, you can back up all the data, and just reformat the drive. Just so you know, this will ERASE the hard drive, so you'll have to back it up beforehand. To do this, go through the following steps:
If you have two hard drives in it (which is only possibly with the 250 GB slim), I'd recommend removing the extra (250 GB) one before continuing, so no accidental data deletion occurs.
Transfer all the data to a thumb drive (16 GB limitation). Plug in the thumb drive, and it should ask if it can reformat it. Say yes. Then, go to My Xbox, System Settings, Memory, then press Y for Device Options. (If you have two hard drives in the Xbox, you'll want to highlight the permanent one). Then choose Transfer Content, and pick your thumb drive as the destination.
Next, get the Console Serial Number. Go to My Xbox, System Settings, Console Settings, and then System Info. Write down the Console Serial number, which should be at the top.
Finally, go to My Xbox, System Settings, Memory, and press Y for Device Options again, highlighting the drive you backed up earlier. Select Format, and say Yes. This will erase everything on the hard drive, leaving you free to set it up from the beginning all over again. Then you can just restore all the data back from the thumb drive when you're finished.
to transfer hard drive data to another hard drive Microsoft makes you pay $20 for a transfer cable you will use one time in your life. unless you have a friend who had to do same thing and already has one
It's plug and play only for the xbox, you could rip a cd of the songs and initially burn it onto your xbox hard drive.Other than that, there is no other solution.
ok i had the same problem when i connected hdmi wire it gave the same problem. but i could hear the sound of x box opening theme but i couldn't see any thing so i moved the right 7 times i also colud hear the sound of moving right (it took me to settings) then clicked A three times 1 for settings 2 for console settings and 3 for display then i pressed up (for going to d up (for going to HDTV...because hdtv is not selectable on standard cable)then again press A for going to HDTV then A again (for selecting to cable)then again press A for going to HDTV then A again (for selecting to optimal resolution)then go up and down and select any thing and press right for yes option hope this helps i did all of it by hearing sound only(without seeing)
yes, open the hard drive using a small-sized Torx bit watch out there is a hidden screw under the warrant sticker, u will then have aces to the hard drive, just swap them
Apparently microsoft will give a data transfer cable for free if and only if you have upgraded from a origonal 360 to an elite. Here is there webpage describing the data transfer cable and how it works. Here is a link to the form that you can fill out and send to microsoft to get a free transfer cable. http://assets.xbox.com/en-us/support/MigrationKit-OrderForm.pdf
