If it's asking for a code then someone phisically put it in there. The unit comes unlocked from the factory. the only way to unlock it now is to get whoever put the code in there to unlock it or give you the code.
try using the code "kcar" on your remote press the numbers that correspond to the letters . This code is used for most basic kenwood, make sure you have valid remote because sometimes the stereos do not allow you input manually from the face plate
Try disconnecting it from all 12 volt sources(overnight)to reset the code entry procedure. If that dont sort it, let me know and we shall try something else
Get the serial number from your head unit, contact Kenwood. they will have an unlock code for you. OR if you still have the manual for the head unit, check that as someone my have written it in there.
