Need to replace the cmos battery on a gateway 450sx4 laptop.

When your Gateway computer is switched off, it still keeps track of various system information such as the date and time, thanks to a small battery that never powers off. The size and thickness of a dime, the CMOS battery can run out and need to be replaced. You can swap out a dead CMOS battery with a new one by removing the Gateway computer's side access panel.

   Shut down the computer. Remove the power cable from the back of the computer case. Disconnect the cables for the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and printer.

   Set the computer case over on its side. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two case screws at the far left end of the case.

   Slide the side access panel to the left and remove it from the computer case. Find the CMOS battery port, which will be located to the lower left of the processor in most Gateway computer models.

   Lift up the plastic clip holding the CMOS battery in place. Slide a fingernail under one side of the battery and lift it off the motherboard port.

   Check the orientation of the new battery and compare it to the CMOS motherboard port. Push the new battery into place in the same direction that the old battery was facing. Push down the plastic clip.

   Set the side access panel back onto the Gateway computer case and reattach the case screws. Plug in the Gateway computer and power it on.
   

Are you booting from the Disk. If not make sure the CMOS looks at the CD /DVD drive first so it can boot from it.

First make sure to remove any dust or debris from the keyboard. Align the key in the proper place on the keyboard and gently push down to see it it will snap back in place. You may have to gently wiggle the key as you press down. If the key will not stay in place you may have to replace the whole keyboard. isnt there a quik boot option in the bios?,look at your system info in windows,rt.click my computer and hit properties,is your processor speed correct,and your ram memory all there.?should be a number divisible by 64,if its not and your missing 10 or 15 meg. one of your ram sticks is loose or failing,pop them out and reseat them,seems to help some of the time,hope this helps ,let me know more details

You have to remove 4 screw on each side of square.
then you find motherbord chipset.
cmos cell is fixed on motherbord circuit.

Depending upon the model laptop, yes the battery is under the keyboard.

Could be overheating, or possibly a motherboard gone bad. Try taking the battery out, unplug from power cord, hold down the power button for 20 seconds, put battery back in and see what happens.

The CMOS battery is located on the motherboard, just under the bottom left side of the keyboard, by the letter 'V". It looks like a clock battery, marked 3V (volts). The battery comes out of its "cage/connector" by gently lifting it with a small flat screwdriver. Replacement CMOS batteries are inexpensive and readily available at any computer shop. take out the keyboard from the bottom side with a flat screw driver under it there´s a few screws take it out lift the cover and there is the battery.
