My 97 Nissan truck stalls, will run rough with black smoke. It will do this for 30 seconds then run fine. It may go a day or two and run fine, then when I stop the engine stalls. It will cank right back up, but will usally stall again, run rough for a bit then run fine. Any suggestions? I have tried the fuel filter, wires and distributor cap.

I recommend you to do a motor flush with SEAFOAM additive before your next oil change.
Use a high mileage oil with seal conditoner for extend the life of the rubber parts on the head.

This is the most inexpensive method to restore power.
If it's the org. engine it will has over 150,000 miles on it.
It's normal to has the valve stem seal/oil seal on the head to leak oil into the cyclinder.
The smoke you see is the motor oil drop from the seals.
It land on the top of the cyclinders and it create black smoke at start up.
The inexpensive fix is to start using high mileage oil with seal conditioner.
This will help soften the rubber seals and help reduce internal oil leak.
The correct fix is to wait until it's time for a head gasket replacement and let the professional service the head.
Complete head service is the only method to stop this internal oil drip problem.
