Runs great smooth till stopthen wont crank. Plug check shows dry black deposits on even new plug after 15 mins. Cranks fine when cools down. added gas to plug and carb and cranked up but had cooled down by then.
3 things are the main causes of black soot. 1 not enough air, check air filter. 2 running too rich, lean out the carb. there will be 2 screws on the carb 1 to increase idle speed and 1 for air mixture. While running turn the mixture screw in until it sputters then back it out 1 turn. 3 bad timing. If the mower hits a rock or branch the shear pin can get creased and change the timing(it is to protect the crankshaft from breaking) Here is a link to a youtube video showing how to change the shear pin.

The magnets are fitted in the flywheel under the pullstart engine cover but i dont think thats your problem. It sounds more like fuel trouble. Remove and clean out the carb. and maybe renew the diaphram.
SOURCE: my mtd yard machine gets hot and turns off
It is air cooled, so it is probably a factory defect, should still be in warranty, most of the MTDs' have a one year warranty on engines.

Hello.
Replace the air filter. This could be the source of your problem.

SOURCE: my john deere L130 riding lawn tractor has spark
I had a JD 111 rider that may have had the same problem. Turned out to be the fuel line had a weak area and would **** together and not allow the fuel through. It's a cheep place to start.
Good luck!!
SOURCE: mower start fine. Runs for
It's one of two things. My first thought is that you have a clogged gas cap. Try loosening it when the mower starts to run ruff. If it smooths out again and runs fine, then you know that the carburetor is not venting properly. Either buy a new gas cap or clear the breathing holes in the cap, if possible.
The only other thing it can be is that your Ignition Coil is going bad. A bad Coil, once it gets hot, will shut down. But it usually takes longer than 5 minutes for them to cool down well enough to start back up.
My Vote is the cap!
Good Luck!
