How to obtain public IP from Time Warner

<p>There are two basic types of IP addresses of internet service providers (ISPs) to provide customers with Internet services: a dynamic address or DHCP and a static IP address. A static IP, as the name implies, uses the exact same IP, and you're online all the time. The DHCP IP configuration uses a "stack" of available IP addresses each time a modem is online and an IP address of the network of the ISPs is simply grabs the first available IP address from the stack. The IP configuration of DHCP, then it is very easy for a new public IP address from your provider at any time <br /> <p><br /> <p>1. Unplug the cable modem from Time Warner. Total count of 30 seconds and close. <br /> <p><br /> <p>2. Allow the modem to reboot every five minutes. During this time, goes through the boot cycle, contact your provider and ask for a dynamic IP address. <br /> <p><br /> <p>3. Navigate to the computer's IP Configuration Manager. For most versions of Windows, the easiest way to do this is to open the Start menu, click All Programs, then select "Command Prompt" from the "Accessories" menu (for future versions of Windows, you may need to the right button on the Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator "to show itself sufficient permissions on IP of the computer information). <br /> <p><br /> <p>4. IP address to test your computer by typing "ipconfig" and "Enter" Command to the numbers printed next to "IP address", like "IPv4 or IPv6 address." The number displayed on the public IP address of the DHCP as the modem from Time Warner will receive net. <br />

Bought the same identical modem that time warner provides & had them register it.enabled wireless & rebooted modem. wireless disables when you connect time warner says everything is good on their end

The configuration between the modem and your computer requires digital switching via code settings. Check you manual for the proper communication settings.

NetGear Gateway Access Problem

No to warner's locking the modem. 192.168.0.1 is the correct address for accessing the options within the modem. incidentally the Motorola wireless modem works better. Go on line to Netgear technical service and they will guide you through the task of setting up the system.

I have an arris tm602g. What is the IP address to access modem 192.????

Try 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1. Make sure that your pc is connected directly to the Arris TM602G modem and not on a router.

Plugged in an ARRIS Modem to a Linksys switch and can only get 1 computer to obtain a valid IP Address. Have reset the modem several times with no success.

You need a router not a switch. The router acts as a switchboard and connects the computers to the modem. A switch essentially connects point to point.

Getting error message: Invalid Ip address

This would normally mean that you have assigned the IP address manually but have also given that same IP to another computer and they are fighting about it.

If this is the case then just check your IP allocations and find out which computer is using the same IP and change it to one that is not in use.

It may also mean that your router is trying to use the same IP as your modem

With just your modem connected to the computer

go to the START MENU / RUN then type CMD and press enter.

Now in the black screen type IPCONFIG /ALL

Take note of the numbers esp in the default gateway, that is your modem)

Now with just the router connected by wire do the same thing.

This time the default gateway is your router if it is the same as your modem then you need to alter it in your router,

You haven't given a model so you will have to work this bit out yourself but your are looking for a setting on your router that starts with the same number you got.
If your default router gateway was lets say 192.168.1.1 then that is what you would be looking for. Change the third block so now it reads 192.168.2.1 and save the settings. This would clear any conflict between modem and router.

If you have assigned IP's to computers they would need to be changed to reflect the routers new IP and again you would just change the third block in the allocated IP to a 2

If in doubt read this a couple of times or print it out.
