Starts but won t keep running

My 2002 Chrysler will start but won't stay running. I was told its about you drop a rod. It hasn't had an oil change I'm a really long time which I'm told.is the cause. Is there any way to save my cart without replacing the whole engine?

Probably not. Once the oil passages inside the engine get plugged up the block has to be hot-tanked to get them cleaned out. Thats after the engine is disassembled.
You can try an engine flush or two, but I would not expect much.
You may not be getting power to the fuel pump if oil pressure is low.

SOURCE: I am really frustrated and

Bascally your car is suffering from a vacuum leak, but not a vacuum leak in the usual sense. Your EVAP system purge valve is open when it should not be. The EVAP system consists of canister of activated charcoal that absorbs vapor given off from the fuel in the fuel tank. When the engine is hot and running (>3000rpm) the purge valve opens and air is drawn throught he canister in order to carry the stored fuel vapour into the inlet manifold. It would appear that in your case this valve is open at idle and the ingress of unmetered air is upsetting the fuel/air mix preventing a combustable mixture form entering the engine and makes starting difficult. Locate the pipe beteen the inlet manifold and the EVAP purge valve. Disconnect it and block off both exposed ends and the car should now start reliably.

Code P0440 - is the bad purge valve - remove it and see if the valve can be released by extensive cleaning with carb choke cleaner spray etc. if not replace it.
Code P0456 - is a minor leak in the EVAP system - could be something as simple as a loose filler cap or crack in the filler cap seal.
Codes P0420 and P0430 indicate that the exhaust catalysts are not working efficiently - if your car is runing lean due to the EVAP purge valve being open then this is a consequence and not a cause. Ignore this issue until the EVAP is fixed at which point it will most likely clear itself.
Code 0325 - knock sensor - when the engine is running lean it gets hot and this can cause premature ignition or 'knock'. The knock sensor was not at fault.
Fix the EVAP purge valve, have the codes wiped and the check engine light will remain off.

Hope the above helps

SOURCE: 1998 Chrysler Town and Country 4WD has

this can be tough one to find, as you know if it does not act up wile it is in the shop then we cant find the problem, but i have seen this one before, under the hood there is a fues relay box on the left side of the engine compartment, the next time the van acts up tap on this box and see if the engine starts, on the bottom of this box is a power control unit, we see these things go bad allot, this unit controls the power for the fuel pump circuit and if it fails to power up the pump then of course the engine will start on the fuel that is in the line then stall and not restart intill the thing kicks on the pump again, this unit also controles many other things it is a computer that controls the ground circuits for the relays that are in the box that is on top of it. if it starts after tapping on it then replace it, there is a prt # ans a calabration # on the unit you can take these #'s and go to a salvage yard and find one that matches the #'s on yours. if after tapping on this unit it still does not start, test for power at the plug in at the top of the fuel tank to see if there is 12 volts at the dark green/white wire wile you are cranking the engine if there is not power it most likely is still the power unit under the hood....good luck

let me know if there is any thing else i can i do for you.

When you had the pump replaced did anyone look at the rod and main bearings? 99% of all low oil pressure problems I've seen has been directly related to bearing wear, not a bad oil pump.
Replacing the pump will give you slightly better pressure temporarily but that won't last very long.
Verify the actual oil pressure using an external mechanical gauge. If it's low (likely it is) go back into the oil pan and use plasti-gage on the bearings to measure clearances.
In reality though, in an engine with that many miles, it's best to either completely rebuild or replace it though.

Keep driving it like that & it won't work at all

When ever you even think you have a transmission
issue, you immediately stop using the vehicle or you
end up rebuilding the trans, your call, your money & lots of it

Ask yourself ---Why would changing the fluid do anything?

Old oil out / New oil in ?

You change trans fluid because it breaks down from the heat
That is it's job,to remove heat or your trans fails

Trans & Power Steering get changed every 3 years & not

It won't die when pulling the relay because it has another power path to the fuel pump through the oil pressure switch .
