Swingline heavy duty staplers provide the power to staple up to 120 pages of 20-lb. paper easily and consistently. The all-metal construction of these staplers makes them an indispensible office tool. However, the way to load staples into a Swingline heavy duty stapler differs from the method for loading most other manual staplers and can cause a little confusion.
Difficulty:Easy Instructions

    • 1 Remove the follow block at the back of the stapler by pushing the mechanism in, lifting the block up over the holding hooks and sliding it out from the stapler. The follow block is the spring-loaded mechanism that holds the staples in place within the stapler.
    • 2 Load the heavy-duty staples into the staple tray.
    • 3 Replace the follow block by inserting it back into the stapler and locking it into place over the holding hooks.

Swingline Optima 40 stapler is frozen. Will not open to refill

Most likely it is 'jammed' from operating too quickly.
If there is a staple that is part way out, you need to pull it completely out to allow the mechanism to pull itself back to the starting position. My uncle solved that problem by throwing his across the room, bouncing it off of a concrete wall. ( Warranty voided ! )

How do I open the swingline optima model # 8784x to reload staples?

I couldn't open my Swingline Optima model 8784x either. Their website wasn't helpful except they mention you can change staples "with the push of a button." Button, I thought. What button? In the picture, there's a black button at the back end of the stapler. Mine is missing! The button, if it were there, would press down on a metal tab, releasing the staple slide which pops out the front. Insert staples, push it closed, you're done! I used a letter opener to push down the metal tab.

My Swingline Optima Power Ease will not staple, nor can I open it to try to find out why. There are staples in there, but it feels like there are no springs

This happened to me as well. I am not sure what causes this but heres what I did to fix it.

Just grab the top part of the stapler ( where it says Swingline) and pull up, like you are trying to seperate the top and bottom. You will hear a click and your stapler should work fine.
