Most laptops use a function+key combination to change the screen brightness. The icon is usally something obvious like a sun with up and down arrows or a level symbol. On my laptop my up arrow has a picture of a sun with an arrow up and the down arrow has a sun with an arrow down. I control it by holding the function button down, labeled Fn, then pressing the up arrow or the down arrow depending on which way I want it to go. Many laptops also use the function keys across the top instead of the arrow keys but they are used the same way, hold the function key down and press the key for the direction you want to go with the brightness. If you can send me your laptop model then I can get the exact way it can be done.

Enter the service mode:
press asterix key ( add. functions ) "*"
press 2
press 8
press asterix key ( add. functions ) "*"

With right arrow, go to CLEAR, press OK, with arrow choose ERR and OK.

Turn off and on.

If these doesn't helps, you need to replace fixing heater.

Fn or Function key is used for your F1 up to F12 keys. Ex. Fn+F5 is to turn on the wireless capability. Fn key is like a shortcut for the functionality of the machine. You can also adjust brightness by pressing Fn+Up or Down arrow and for the Volume Fn+Left and Right arrow.

To set the ringer volume of the base unit, press FUNCTION/EDIT, scroll to Ringer Setting using the up or down arrow keys of the navigator key(lower right of base unit), press the right arrow key to select Ringer Setting. Press the right arrow key again to select Ringer Volume. Use the up or down arrow keys to choose the volume level, press the right arrow key to save the setting.

To set the ringer volume of the handset, press the CONF/FUNCTION button(lower left) on the handset, scroll to Ringer Setting using the up or down arrow keys of the navigator key(center of the handset), press the right arrow key to select Ringer Setting. Press the right arrow key again to select Ringer Volume. Use the up or down arrow keys to choose the volume level, press the soft key SAVE to save the setting. (There are three softkeys directly under the LCD screen of the handset whose functionality can change according to what is on screen)

Look for the "Fn" key at the lower left of the keyboard. Hold this down and look at the "F" or function keys at the top of the keyboard, look for the symbol that looks like the sun or light shining, there may be one key that simply toggles through the settings or there may be two keys, one for brightness and then another for dimming. Most functions will be printed in blue on a notebook keyboard, so also look at the arrow keys to the right, there maybe brightness indicators on the up arrow as well as the down arrow. When ever you want to perform a certain function with these keys, you have to hold down the "Fn" key while pressing the function key.

check the arrow keys it it's also not functioning in the BIOS:
- restart the system and press F2 five times during the splash screen of the big blue DELL logo to go to the BIOS (System Setup). Then test the arrow keys.
- if arrow keys are also not functioning within the BIOS the the keyboard assembly needs to be replaced.
- if arrow keys are working within the BIOS then reinstall the chipset drivers and keyboard driver found in the Drivers CD/DVD that came with the computer.

Sometimes the brightness is on the arrow keys hit the Fn or function key and press down on the arrow to dim the light or press up on the arrow key to increase brightness

Arrow keys move the cursor into fields + or - keys change the values of the fields.

If you continue to have problems changing the size, make sure the 'bent arrow' next to the BS key is not on. Once I took that off I was able to make the need adjustments to my size and style.
