Tomtom problem Hi, I have just recently purchased a Tomtom XL. It seemed to be working OK for the first few days when I had it in the car on the charger. I then unplugged it,turned it off and put it in the glovebox,fully charged. The next time I got it out to use it was completely dead and I had to re charge it to use it. I then charged it fully before turning off again. I've just tried it now and again it's completely dead! Is it me or the Tomtom that has issues? Patrick

From what I understand, you have a 30 day guarantee for the latest update map. That 30 day stretch starts from the day of first use (not the time of purchase). It it is not a store demonstration unit then you still have 15 days. It goes without saying that if the licensed map has not updated within the 30 days period, there is nothing to update. You can however still use the Map Share feature to download the minor map corrections.

I suggest you frequently connect your unit to the calculator and the Tomtom Home software will do the automatic updates. If a new map is issued within your 30 period you will get. Even if you missed it you should console yourself in the knowledge that major map update are not that frequent. You can also buy other maps from Tomtom.

Using cable data /charger port you can do charging both at system or in car under car charger option. those specifications placed in manual and normally lasts for 3 hours

This happens with my cell phone all the time too, just have to go to manage phones and delete my phone then re-configure it and that seems to fix it for a while at least. Also night & day always has to be done manually, it won't change automatically that i'm aware of. I'm pretty sure i had to download some of the free voices from the TomTom Home or website initially, in any case i prefer to use my TomTom 720 without voice as becomes annoying listening all day nag nag nag blah blah blah.

OK then get a new battery for it...the battery is damaged and do it quick in case it leaks into the works

Hi, if you can get a tomtom card with maps and operating software on it should work in your tomtom. I have copied my friends tomtom go and used it in mytomtom xl and it worked ok

Hi, If its all working OK to your requirements . Let sleeping dogs lay. Theres no need to update it if you are happy. If you require traffic information updates ( thats if you are paying a subscription for the service ) then you will probably want to update anyway..... You can update by going to the TomTom website and downloading their software "TomTom Home" . Install this to your PC and follow the instructions . You will need to connect your TomTom to your PC via USB cable in order for any updates to take place. TomTom Home does this automaticly for you ( more or less ). You should laos have received a CD with your TomTom at purchase and this CD contains the TomTom Home software . Good Luck.
