You have 2 bolts on the left side of the tray one you can see just by looking at it. the other is right above it facing down

you can remove the seat, then undo the bolts on each side of the bracket holding the battery, then of course remove pos and negative wires, you can do it without removing the seat, just easier access

I can tell you how to do it on an earllier model but Harley may have changed it on your '04. Start by removing the seat. Then just towards the rear of the bike from the battery box, there were two bolts. Loosen these bolts. Inside the frame near the battery is a "jack bolt". Loosen the bolt and it lowers the battery tray. Tighten the bolt and it raises the battery tray. I hope this helps.
Good Luck

What you are hearing is the compensator sprocket bottoming out upon start-up. Inside your primary there is a dampening device before power is ransfered to the clutch. It is designed to give you a smoother power delivery when you let out the clutch. So its not so "grabby". Ever since 2006 when H-D first introduced the cruize dive this has been a common complaint. In truth, this noise on start-up IS normal. Higher octne fuel will not help in any way.It will only cost more.
