We have a 2006 Dodge Durango, bought new.
About three days ago we noticed the oil light was on. We stopped, killed the car and started it back, and the light went off.
It comes on (often, but not every time) when you start the car. When you turn the switch off and start it again, it doesn't come back on. It's never come on while the vehicle was in motion. Just when you start it. Turn the switch and start it again and it goes off. (Almost makes me think it has something to do with the light itself.)
The oil didn't show to be low. It has been changed regularly. But, we had it changed again, just to be sure. It hasn't helped with the problem.
Any ideas?
(It's going to the dealer Tomorrow or Wednesday, we have extended coverage and they are going to do something.)
Thanks in advance for any information.
It might be faulty oil pressure sensor or bad oil pump, but might be adressed to recent oil change. Sometimes oil get viscouse in winter and cause oil light to come on. For winter the recommended one is 5W-30
Oil light should come on for less then a second during starting the car. If it comes longer or when you push the brake it might be the sign of bad oil (sometimes), faulty oil pressure sensor (mosty), bad oil pump (often) or internal engine problem (very rare).
Good Luck

Thank you for the info!
The light stays on when you start the car. But when you turn the key back, and then start it again, it doesn't stay on. It's really odd.....but hopefully it is the sensor thing....that doesn't sound like a major problem...:)
It's getting traded anyhow.....it's aggravating as all get out....
2003 Dodge Durango SXT, 56,000 Miles. Oil light comes on occasionally (seems to be very cold days though), but will turn off when you turn the car off and restart.
What has happened with this. Have an 04 with the exact problem
