2006 Dodge Durango Oil light comes on

We have a 2006 Dodge Durango, bought new.

About three days ago we noticed the oil light was on. We stopped, killed the car and started it back, and the light went off.

It comes on (often, but not every time) when you start the car. When you turn the switch off and start it again, it doesn't come back on. It's never come on while the vehicle was in motion. Just when you start it. Turn the switch and start it again and it goes off. (Almost makes me think it has something to do with the light itself.)

The oil didn't show to be low. It has been changed regularly. But, we had it changed again, just to be sure. It hasn't helped with the problem.

Any ideas?

(It's going to the dealer Tomorrow or Wednesday, we have extended coverage and they are going to do something.)

Thanks in advance for any information.

    Thank you for the info!

The light stays on when you start the car. But when you turn the key back, and then start it again, it doesn't stay on. It's really odd.....but hopefully it is the sensor thing....that doesn't sound like a major problem...:)

It's getting traded anyhow.....it's aggravating as all get out....

2003 Dodge Durango SXT, 56,000 Miles. Oil light comes on occasionally (seems to be very cold days though), but will turn off when you turn the car off and restart.

It might be faulty oil pressure sensor or bad oil pump, but might be adressed to recent oil change. Sometimes oil get viscouse in winter and cause oil light to come on. For winter the recommended one is 5W-30
Oil light should come on for less then a second during starting the car. If it comes longer or when you push the brake it might be the sign of bad oil (sometimes), faulty oil pressure sensor (mosty), bad oil pump (often) or internal engine problem (very rare).
Good Luck

Because oil pump already made enough of oil pressure for the system and there is some delay for oil sensor too, second time you need probably wait for 5min or more, start the car and see if light stays on.

,oil pressure light comes on only when stopped at stop lights or stopped traffic, had oil change 4 days ago

Hopefully, it's just a bad oil sender unit, but, when the oil light flashes at stop signs and lights it's usually and indicator that the vehicle is either low on oil or you may be having problems with the oil pump. I would get it to a qualified mechanic ASAP unless you're qualified to work on it yourself.

2005 Dodge Durango Wont Start not the battery .Is my PCM Fried?

What is this red flashing light that you are talking about? Please specify the symbol that is in question. The owners manual has a section that covers the gauge cluster and what the warning lights mean. Is this light is a lock symbol or something referring to the vehicles anti-theft system. Could this light be the oil symbol? If this is the oil symbol then this issue could be related to low or poor oil quality (oil change needed), the oil pressure sending unit is faulty, the wiring to the oil pressure sending unit is damaged, or the oil pump or the oil pressure regulator is weak or damaged. I mentioned these two examples because they are related to a no start problem. If the engine light is on. You may obtain my diagnostic information if you have the engine codes read. Let me know how you are making out. If you have other questions please write back. good luck.

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango and my oil light comes on and goes off.We have the oil changed like we should. The other day the engine light come on and today it when off after we drove it for 30 mins.

Possible causes of the oil light coming on are -
low oil pressure
dirt in the passage behind the oil pressure switch
a faulty oil pressure switch.
Most people either replace the switch or have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

Try using a MOPAR oil filter...These cheap after market filters are allowing the oil to drip down into the pan and there is none in the top of the motor on cold starts.

Oil light is on

May be bad oil pressure sending unit. Best way to check is to connect a mechanical oil pressure guage to engine and check pressures when engine is warm. Should be no lower than 40 psi at idle when warm, no higher than 70 psi at 2000 rpm.
