Does your WiFi work on the laptop work in another place... Starbucks for example? If so, then there is a software security issue with the router, you will need to call the ISP for adjust the settings. If you PC doesn't work with wifi at Starbucks then you have a software issue with your laptop. Go to MY Computer, Hardware/Devices and look for any yellow marks. There will probably be one where the wifi is located. (Expand all the devices by clicking on the plus "+ signs. Find the wifi modem, there are many mfrs; Broadcom and Atheros are two ones. Go into the submenus and driver update too and write everything down you find. The most important things are the description, model number, software version and version date. Navigate to the hardware mfrs site and download and install the newest drivers for the wifi modem. Re-boot and try again to establish a connection.

I have found it easier to buy a new keyboard from ebay and replace the whole thing. Its not a hard process just a few small screws and your done. You can find out how to remove the keyboard from Gateway should have a repair manual for download.

The power receptors next to the battery sound like toast. Try running the computer off of just the charger (correct one) with no battery. If this works, you need a new battery. If this doesn't work, your computer needs a new power supply. Hope this helps =]

There are lot of people who can't get used to the mouse or (touch pad as it is called) on the lap top. I know, I am one. I hate the touch pad. Easiest solution is to use a regular mouse with a USB connection. Or you can buy a wireless mouse. If you carry around a lap top, it becomes a must that you have a laptop case. So, a wireless mouse is not going to be a hindrance. Best option would be a wireless one. Buy one. Put the CD that comes with it in the drive. set up the receiver (just install the program that came in the CD. That is it.) Put battery in the mouse, and press a button (a small button called connect) at the bottom of the mouse. And you are all ready to go as usual. This connect thing is a one time operation. You need to repeat it only when you change the battery. I guess you will get used to the key board in a weeks time. If the touch pad start acting up, you can disable the touch pad, so that only your mouse will be active. I am not sure what icons you are referring to, but if they are on the key board, most keys of the laptop have multiple functions. They are kind of colour coded.Look closely on the Fn key. you may notice that it is a little gray. You will also notice other markings that are gray on the keyboard. This means when that key is pressed in combination with Fn it has a new function. For example, Fn and F6 will decrease the brightness of the screen. Fn and F7 increases. Fn and F8 will turn your wireless on or off. There a few other functions like that too.

Connect the projector and hit your function (FN) key and tap the F8 key. This should toggle the display to the projector.

If that doesn't work, look at your FN keys (top row) and look for a blue label for CRT/LCD and use FN+ that key.

From your PC (not your laptop):
Click START
Click RUN
Type CMD and press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG and press ENTER
Find the line stating "gateway 192.168.xxx.yyy"
Start Internet Explorer
Type http://192.168.xxx.yyy
Login to your router
Click the "wireless configuration" button
Set a new security-key or passphrase.

Now, try connecting wirelessly from your laptop, using the new security-key or passphrase.

It can be different problems, Battery, Power bottom not working, or better the mother board is bad. I really want you to connect your lap top to the power supply and check if there are lights on the indicated it is working. If there is light or lights on try to turn on your computer and pay really close attention for any noise or beeps. Then let me know what you came up with and I can get you pc to work.

You should back up your files regularly and be prepared to purchase a new hard drive and install Windows on the new hard drive etc. when the hard drive eventually fails.
