Hi Janice,

First of all, you need a list of frequencies that you wish to program into your scanner see:www.radioreference.com.

Once you've got a hard copy of your favourite local frequencies, you will need to program them into your scanner.

Example only!!!

123.7000
This is an air band frequency but only for example this is what you need to do.

Press prog key, enter the frequency exactly as I have typed them here: 123.7000, press delay key, press L/O key only if L/O is showing on the display, now press Enter key, you now have the first frequency programmed.

Now press Hold/Mon key and you will be given the next channel to program, follow the steps above until you have completed the setup.

When complete, press scan and every time the scanner detects a transmission, it will stop scanning during the transmission, prior to scan again.

You can stop scanning at any time by pressing the Mon/Hold key, when you hear a transmission that interests you. That way you won't miss anything interesting.

I hope this helps you in your hobby.

Cheers,
Peter

SOURCE: programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl

danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming.
1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming.
2- Enter the freq number in.
3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory.
4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button.
5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2
That should get you started with the scanning hobby.
The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic.
If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing.

Hope this helps you out, let us know,, Mechanic

I can't locate information specific to the 210XW, but hopefully this generic Bearcat programming info will help:

1. Press the MANUAL key to advance to the channel that you wish to reprogram.

2. Enter the new frequency, including decimal point.

3. Press the ENTER or E key.

4. Start over with step one to continue programming channels.

I have a uniden bearcat hand held scanner sportcat, which for some reason has lost its memory, is there any way to program it

You didn't specify the model number of your scanner, so here's a link to a list of available Uniden scanner manuals. If your model number is listed, just click on the "Product Details" column to download/print the manual. It will provide detailed programming instructions.
