engine does not turn over at all....plug has a spark...starter is turning just not turning over engine

thinking it must be sensor switch but dont know where to start

normally if a sensor switch you wouldn't have a spark. check for spark

back to fuel prob, if your sure not fuel prob there next step is to check for compression. if no compression tester take plug out and hold finger to hole. turn over. it should be enough pressure to lift you finger slightly

engine is not turning over at all...starter is turning and causing spark but no engine turnover so no compression

ok the timing sensors are on the krank which control the timing for the spark, if this dont move,, no spark( might get 1 initial spark but thats it)

if thats the case then the starter motor has a fault, it has a flywheel that throws out and connects causing engine to turn. what happens with the kickstart is it solid or feel loose

  • Anonymous Feb 13, 2013

it feels solid but engine wont turn over nothing at all with kickstart

i have just realised you got an auto clutch, makes bit differentin diagnostics, now on the one hand sounds like a starter prob as i said earlier for starter to spin with no engine movement. that aint right, on the other sounds like engine seized somewhere. putting these 2 things together i would say that where the starter connects to the engine is the place to start looking. starter motor need to come off. needs a visual inspection.it will look obvious if damaged. what we're looking for is why is it not contacting when you try starting it. also we want to see if we can physically turn the engine over, often theres a krank bolt that you can turn with a spanner. i'm still not sure if your able to kick the kick start the normal distance or wether its locking before full distance.

no probs mate, i done a little research, there a return call on the fuel pump but this still wouldn't explain why the engine done turn. obviously i dont know your mechanical knowledge. i take it your positive the engine dont turn over, i dont mean running, just spinning over when the starter is pushed.

    done=dont

    i am thinking engine siezed

yep i'm hoping that the fault is a broken end to the starter or the plate it connects to which has jammed the engine, that would be worth fixing. .

which would explain why the starter still spins which it wouldn't normally in a seized engine

Does sound like a fuel blockage, check fuel tap , fuel pump, carb bowl that contains fuel, theres often a screw at bottom of carb, loosen, see if fuel comes out.

SOURCE: yamaha virago 535 turn ignition on neutral light

These are known for starter problems... The clicking you hear is the relay but the bendix is locked up put it in about 3rd gear and rock it hard forward and back. Bendix may release. Make sure battery is good. As I said before these bike are well known for their starter problem and even after having it fixed by a dealer problem seems to show back up after a very short time. Good Luck!

I have a 97 acheiva that wont start.

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Does the starter motor crank the engine? If so, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs, if spark everywhere, check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse.
Any applicable trouble codes?
I did look at your security system, it said passlock. Generally, passlock is fuel injector disable, only.
If the starter motor won't even crank the engine, have to check that system.

Having trouble with 1942 Ford 9N tractor.

You have a ground not grounding could be the switch itself and it may be the voltage reducer to the coil.
