Sounds like your bypass kit lost its programming or the tach wire is not hooked up properly

My battery died recently and now the remote start will start the vehicle but shut it down within seconds.

You need to re-program the TACH wire.. open the door start the car with the key, between 5 seconds press the valet switch 1 time and press it again and hold it until the led flashes and the car will beep and then turn it off and start the car with the remote and it should be programed now. if that doesn't work take it to a authorized viper dealer to have it fixed.

you can try and reprogram the "tach". it sounds like the bypass module is working since it controls the lock/unlock function as well as the bypass for passlock III. to reprogram the tach you need to start the car with the key and within 5 seconds press and hold the valet button, the parking lights should flash to confirm tach has been learned. remove the key and try the remote start. if all is well, cool. but if it still doesn't work, put key in ignition, turn key to on but not start. with key in the on position remote start car with remote, if it starts then the problem is your by-pass module. hope this helps, dave

The "pair" the remote with your system:

1.PRESS AND HOLD the f button on the remote UNTIL the transmit LED lights solid (approximately 10 seconds)
2.PRESS AND HOLD the remote start button (circle arrow) UNTIL the LED blinks 3 times and the amber transmit LED lights up. Your remote is now ready to pair.
3.. Turn the key to the on position
4.Within 5 seconds PRESS AND RELEASE the control button on the antenna.
5. Within 5 seconds PRESS AND HOLD the control button. The status LED will flash one time and the siren will chirp to confirm that the system is ready for remote pairing.
6. Press lock button on remote. System will respond with chirp toconfirm pairing.

Remote starter doesn't function

if the battery was replaced or any terminals removed, you may have lost the tach programming for the remote starter. Goto http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/bdnew/installmanuals.asp and look for the remote start unit you have in the manuals and it will tell ya how to reprogram the tach memory.

Would you recomend the Audiovox Prestige APS901N for my '06 Chrysler T & C mini van?

IF RANGE IS NOT IMPORTANT I SUGGEST A AUDIOVOX AS9076N . ITS AN ADD ON REMOTE START WHERE YOU WOULD PRESS
LOCK
THEN UNLOCK
THEN LOCK AGAIN ON YOUR FACTORY REMOTE AND THIS WOULD START THE CAR.
I BELIEVE THE IGNITION KEY HAS BUILT IN KEYLESS ENTRY BUTTON ON IT ALREADY. SO WHY CARRY ANOTHER REMOTE?
MOST OF AUDIOVOX MIDRANGE SYSTEMS HAVE THIS OPTION FOR ADD ON REMOTE START SYSTEMS WHERE YOU CAN USE THERE REMOTE OR TIE IT IN WITH YOUR EXSISTING REMOTE.
OTHER UNITS WILL HAVE DOUBLE LOCK OPTION TO START CAR. OR TRIPLE LOCK OPERATION.

Why does the car start by itself after I installed the remote starter?

i could be to things, if the remote start has a remote timer, that you can program the remote start to start every hour for like 5 minutes, or there is an activation wire on the remote start that is getting grouned somehow and allowing the car to start. What i would do is look in your manual and see how to bring the remote start back to all its original factory settings, and make sure all loose wires are taped up and not touching anything. If you need help on manuals or anything let me know and i can walk you through it.
