Leak from behind the handle/cover plate

That's exactly what that is. We call it a "derby cover". It's held on by four screws. Take this cover off. There is a locknut and small spring that is behind the cover. This holds the clutch adjuster. Just put it back in the hole. The plate is sealed by a "quad ring". This is an O-ring made of square material. Just replace the quad ring and it should solve your leak. You can use some thick grease to hold the quad ring in place while you replace the cover. Don't forget to put the locknut and spring back in first.

If it's like mine, there's a corrugated plastic ring just behind the handle that turns. Pry it back, it releases with clips, and remove the set screw. Once you unscrew it, pull the handle off, then remove the screws for the backing plate which are hidden behind another, clip on shield. You can then get to the two outer and four inner screws that hold the covers over the cartridge assembly which just pulls out. Of course, be sure your water is turned off during all of this.

Just in case you need to do so.

1. Turn the water off. The water control knob is located under your sink and is connected to the drain. Turn it counterclockwise to turn off the water.

   Open the faucet to relieve any differences in pressure. Pull up on the faucet as you would if you were turning it on.

   Plug the drain of the sink with its stopper to prevent any parts from going down it.

   Turn the faucet handle sharply to one side to reveal a small cover plate. Pry the plate off carefully with a flat-bladed screwdriver.

   Unscrew the screw that is located behind the cover plate with a 4 mm allen key.

   Lift the handle off and remove the cap beneath it.

   Firmly grip the exposed cartridge with your hands and pull up to remove it.

Ok I am take a stab at this. If it is a L shaped handle it is not steel but an aloy and at the end of the long part of the handle is a end cap that either screws off or pops out when pry on. The set screw should be in the handle under that.
If that is not true then the set screw has to be somewhere around the base of the handle near the shower cover plate maybe headen under a little cover that would look like a small push-in cap.

On this valve the hot/cold in reverse is easy enough to fix, but the faucet dripping at the handle is another issue. To reverse the hot and cold, turn off the house water, relieve the pressure by opening a nearby faucet. Once the water stops, remove the handle and faucet cover so you can see the valve. then the four screws that are visible need to be removed. Mark one of the screw holes with a crayon or pencil and then remove by pulling straight out. Once out, inspect the main o-ring right behind where it sits against the valve, (if this is damaged, it might be why the handle area is leaking) then turn the whole assembly clockwise 180 degrees then insert straight back in and insert screws. Tighten screws until snug. Turn water back on before installing cover and handle to check for leaks. If no leaks are found, install cover and handle and check for proper position of hot and cold. If there are leaks, tighten screws in clockwise rotation tightening each screw a quarter turn, then moving to the next one until dripping stops. If dripping is from center of stem, where the handle attaches, you will need to contact Price Pfister to request a replacement. They are very good to work with. Good luck.

id say your tub spout or shower pipe is leaking and running down behind remove both and replace teflon tape see if it stops

BEHIND THE HANDLE THERE SHOULD BE A SET SCREW THAT HOLDS THE HANDLE ON THE STEM. THE SET SCREW WILL BE BEHIND THE LONGEST PART OF THE HANDLE LOOK AROUND BACK OF THE HANDLE. AFTER REMOVING THE HANDLA THERE WILL BE A STEM AND A NUT THAT HOLDS THE ASSEMBLY IN THE HOUSING

Yes there is a seal behind the advance weights. You can pull this seal without disassembly. What you need is the cam cover seal. A quick tip to put the new seal in is to do this. The seal is a metal lip seal. The edge of the seal where it goes into the cam cover can be chamferred on a grinder just a little bit to help it slide in with a slight tap of a hammer. Water pump is on the left side of the timing belt in the cover and spins on an O-ring to adjust the belt. Their is a coolant pipe to the the thermostat housing behind the timing covers backing plate also. Be sure to replace the timing belt with the tensioner/ oil seals along with the water pump. Remove the timing covers back plate and you will find two bolt to the pipe as mentioned. It has a large o-ring behind it. Have fun with this one. From: Ronnie Wrench
