SOURCE: apple ipod problem

hi phipps42,
Theres a few things you can try:
1. Update to itunes 8
2. uninstall itunes, and reinstall it
3. can you access it while logged into an account? Out of an account?
If none of these work, download the Itunes vista patch fix here
iTunes and vista is like trying to stick a finger covered in alumiunum foil in the electrical outlet lol, vista is microsoft, itunes is apple. Rival OS companies.
Hope this helps.

SOURCE: itunes with vista

The current versions of ITunes will work with Vista.  Make sure all of your ITunes software is updated.

SOURCE: My ipod doesnt want to

Try restarting the iPod and connect it again. If it doesn't recognize it try it on another PC, if it still isn't detected it is the iPod. Buying a Mac wouldn't help nor hurt the situation, it would just be an expenditure.

I cant get my music of my ipod nano onto my new netbook? i HAVE A NEW NETBOOK WHICH IS WINDOWS 7 AND I CANT TRANSFER MY MUSIC OFF MY IPOD NANO 4GB ONTO MY NETBOOK?

iDevices (iPod, iPhone, etc) usually can only be managed through iTunes. So the first thing you should do is install iTunes (you can download it off Apple's website).

After installing iTunes and connecting your iPod, you must open My Computer then double click your iPod's icon. Then, click on Tools, Options, and in the View tab check the "Show hidden files and folders" option. You should then see an "iPod_Control" folder. Inside it there'll be a "Music" folder, with all your songs. Just drag them back to your computer.

But remember: you can only manage your iPod's music through iTunes. If you add or change songs on your iPod without using iTunes, these songs won't be recognized.

I have a 5th generation iPod Nano. I've had it less than one year, and now whenever I plug it into my computer with the USB cord that came with it, my computer says "USB device not recognized" and that the...

  • Check system requirements. - iPod nano (5th generation) requires the following minimum versions of Windows: either Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later), Vista or Windows 7. If you have one of these versions of Windows, verify that Windows is fully up to date by downloading and installing software updates from Microsoft. If you have Windows XP with Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 2, download and install Service Pack 3 using Windows Update.

  • iTunes online? - Confirm that iTunes has been downloaded and installed.

  • AMDS online? - iPod nano requires Apple Mobile Device Support (AMDS), which should be automatically installed with iTunes. To verify whether it is installed, click Start > Control Panel. Open the Add or Remove Programs control panel and verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is visible in the list of currently installed programs. If it is not, remove and reinstall iTunes.

  • Check USB connection. - Disconnect all USB devices from the system with the exception of the iPod nano and any USB keyboard and mouse. Then restart your computer. Verify that you are using a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Test with an alternate iPod USB cable if one is available.

  • AMDS - Re-verify that AMDS is running and installed.

  • iTunes usage - Remove and reinstall iTunes.
hope this helps

I have recently been given one an a1236 and need to know what I need as far as cables, etc.. to use with my windows 7

The nano should have come with the iPod dock connector which will have to be connected to a high power USB 2.0 port on the computer. You'll have to have installed iTunes on your computer prior to connecting the iPod to the computer (iTunes contains the drivers necessary for the iPod to be recognized by the computer).

Ipod not recognized by computer or itunes

I struggled with this issue for a while and finally found a post that helped me. Hold menu and the center buttons until the iPod turns off. Then, immediately hold the left and center buttons to pull up the iPod diagnostic menu. Scroll down to the option "Reset" and select it. My iPod was finally recognized by iTunes. Good luck :)

Cannot get Ipod Nano to appear in the source panel

The newer iPod nano requires iTunes 7 or later, which unfortunately requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. You must upgrade your operating system to install iTunes so you can use your iPod with it.
