My Acomdata (HD250 UE5-72) external hard drive isn't working

Mfg Apr 06 - This drive worked perfectly until a few months ago when it was no longer recognized in my list of drives and the normally blue light now flashes from red to quick blue constantly. I have disconnected all cords, tried dfferent ports and computers, but nothing seems to work. Is there anyway to reset the drive? Is it a total loss? It is my major backup!

The hard drive is probably faulty, how is the drive? if it uses a external powersupply the power adapter may have worn out and is not providing enough power for the drive to function.

Do you hear clicking from the drive?

A possible solution would be to remove the hard drive from the case, note that it may void your warranty if its still on warranty. And connect it to your computer directly to see if it functions.

Plug the drive into a MS Windows XP box. The first thing it asks you is whether or not you want to change or disable the security settings. Disable them. After that you should be able to mount the drive just like a usb memory stick.

Unlikely Its A Total Loss But Something inside The Unit Is Broke Probably Not The Actual Hard Drive. Let Me Know Are Any Lights Lighting? Does The Plug From The Wall Have Power? If Not Take The Plug To Radio Shack Or Similar And Pick One With The Same Output To Replace it.

If the drive is not detected anymore by any computer sorry to say but its already bad, you can still send the drive back to manufacturer and they can still try to recover data from it...

Hello,

You can remove the hard drive from the case and put it into another, new usb hard drive case. You can buy one for 20-30 dollars. I have seen this many times before. The hard drive is probably okay, but the controller inside the acomdata case is likely dead. Don't worry, just get a new usb hd case.

Hope this helps!

Joe

Not showing my external hard drive

you might have to log off the computer and log on again with another user. the user that you installed the data under is sometimes the only way to go back and retrieve it. try this first.

Try turning everything off and then replugging the drive in.  Then start your computer back up/turn drive back on (if you have to).

My Acomdata (500gb?) external hard drive isn't working

Place it onto another computer, if you can see it and access it then plug it into a differant USB port on your computer.

Clicking sound on Firewire 250GB

okay, I had this issue with my acomdata 500GB. today I decided to open up the drive to see if I could remove it and restore the data. after unscrewing all six screws (4 on the front and 2 small ones on the side, you'll need two different phillips, a large one and small one), I looked inside. first I registered the driver inside (it's a Western Digital) in case I needed to get it replaced. sure enough, it was still under warantee, even though the enclosure/driver kit is not (acomdata warantee runs out after a year for this model). but I noticed a slippage on the mangnetic copper film strip right above the USB port entry. it was slightly falling off the edge of the port. so I just fixed it, not thinking much of it, it just didn't "look" right. then I had a thought to plug it back in. driver now works again! I am about to recover my files and then test unplugging it to see if this repair "sticks".
