Question about Acomdata (HD080U2FE-72) 80 GB Hard Drive
My external hard drive was working fine and then one day it was no longer listed in My Computer or Device Manager. I know the data is still there. (I can't remember what I did to find that out). How can I retrieve this data or make the drive work again. I have already tried to reinstall the driver with no success.
My final solution was to remove the drive from the housing and install it as a slave in the main case. The computer is operating Windows XP and instantly recognised the drive. Works fine, all of my data is there. No problem now. This approach will not help laptop users but they might try removing the drive from the ACOMDATA housing and installing it in another housing.

My situation. No problems in 2 years. not used much (just itumes music). Unit turned on after a month, but my G4 Powerbook doesn't recognise it anymore. Drive is spinning. No clicks. Solid green light. Good connection and cables.
Talked to tech support at acomdata who says that the good news is (for me) it hard drive seems ok, but the fw/usb "board" is bad. Since out of warrenty, the only thing is to put in another external enclosure.
That sux still. Paid about $100 for this ****.
If you want to call it a "solution", you can peel back the skicker on the bottom, unscrew, take the hard drive out and put into a desktop or another encloser. per acomdata.
Trust me, no more acomdata enclosures.

EXact problem as discribed by Jelly fish. Tried differant cables, differant USB ports, reinstall, rebooting - no effect. The computer just does not recognise that the drive is connected.
Was working fine. One day when I turned on the drive, it never showed on the desktop. Mac G-5 osx 10.4.11 Can't get it to come up on laptop either.
Same problem...for no reason, the hard drive stopped showing up on the desktop and starting making a clicking sound...it's not showing up in the Apple System Profiler, either. I'm using it on a Mac running OS 9.2.2.

Same problem. The drive does not show up in my files. The small light at front is also not lit when device is turned on. Device sounds like it is operating when turned on. In addition, the fan is blowing air out through the vents. Thanks for your help.
Same issue. Light is on, drive in on, no clicking. Not being recognised by powerbook G4. No problems prior to this. Its has been about a month since trying today. Not dropped or anything. Whats the deal. Left a message with acomdata tech support. Will let you know....
