The black cap with pocket clip PULLS off. It does not screw on. May be tight. I used a knife to to pry between the yellow barrel an the cap, to get it started. Pull the cap off and dump the old batteries out. Dispose of the dead batteries appropriately, please. It takes 2 LR44 coin cells, or equivalent. The (+) side of the cells go into the barrel first - both with same orientation, with the (-) ends (the buttons) toward the opening. Then reinstall the cap - line it up so the clip will align with the window in the yellow barrel, then just press it all the way into the yellow barrel. Done.

Unable to open my GT-11 Voltage Detector

Hold the tester in your hand and you will see the on/off switch at the end of the tester. Make certain that the tester is turned to "off" and just below the word "off" you will see a small white dot. You will need to depress the white dot and while doing so turn the top part of the on/off switch toward that white dot. At the same time you will also need to pull that cap upward, like you would be pulling it off the tester, and you will see that it slides up and off. That is where the two AAA batteries are located!! Re-installing it is just the opposite of removing it.
