It sounds like to me you have a faulty Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor. You can get these at www.rockauto.com cheaper then anywhere else.

SOURCE: Turns over - won't start.

I had this very same problem. I replaced the battery with a Ford 875 cranking amp battery and the fuel filter. The air ride really beats on those batteries, especially if the compressor is worn out.

SOURCE: I have a 2005 Lincoln

Hi.

Problem is the automatic transmission. You have either a bad throttle position sensor, a bad speed sensor, a problem with TCM (transmission control module, or a problem with transmission solenoid.

The first action is doing a code scanning. A partial code scanning can be done for free at Autozone. Autozone can only do a scan on the main computer, which will may return a code P0700 (see code p0700 after an OBDII scan.) P0700 means that an additional scan must be done on the transmission dedicated module. If there is a code P0700 (do free test first), a full scan canl be done at the dealer or at an authorized using a different scan tool. A mechanic scanning the TCM will help more than saying "I do not know". Standard charge is $80.

If there are no codes the parts that can be responsible must be tested.

Before doing anything else, check transmission fluid. If it is dark brown or if level is low, replace it.

The most common fault causing the problem is a defective TPS ( throttle position sensor). Test must be done using a multimeter.
The TPS can be tested by reading volts at its terminals while someone else is pushing down the accelerator pedal. If voltage has gaps (in your case this is likely the result), or if voltage does not change smoothly, then the TPS must be replaced.

Other part that can be responsible is the speed sensor, mounted on the transmission. This part is more difficult to test, and gets usually replaced.

The transmission is operated by an array of solenoids called solenoid pack. The solenoids are located inside transmission, in the valve body. The solenoids are tested using an Ohm meter.

Wiring to solenoid pack must also be checked reading volts while problem happens (mechanic will put car on lifter).

If there is nothing else, then the TCM itself (a computer) may be itself the culprit. Before replacing the module, it must be tested. First part to check is its grounding and the connector pins.

As said, the culprit is likely the TPS. That is the first part to test. Do also a code scanning to see if there are codes stored.

Regards.

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 (206K miles) Anti Theft activating rolling code fault. Engine cuts out and will not start. Fix? Bypass?

Probably a damaged wire or connector.
Trace the wires, it may take some time to find the fault but a good autoelectrician will know what to do.
The dealership may get very expensive!

My 1998 Lincoln Towncar stopped in the middle of the street it turns over but won't crank it has 3 dashes where it says fuel remain what is the problem?

Hi Eric:
Maybe it needs a dash more fuel.
Kidding, but maybe not.
If it was running fine and then just quit, the first suspect is no fuel.

Hope you got it off the street and into a safe place.

I'd start by putting some fuel in and giving it a try.

Then you get into trouble shooting, check for spark and fuel pump function, fuel delivery (injectors or carb)
Or a tow to the local garage.

1997 Lincoln Continentalhorn won't stop honking

First, Have your Battery tested. The Alarm systems in Ford made Products are very sensitive to Voltage. There are 3 systems in the car which interrupt power, the Alarm system (horn honking) and the Battery saver and finally the starter interlock system.

The Alarm system will do several things to disable the car from starting. It will reduce the voltage to the starter to prevent the engine from turning over. Some will even kill the ignition system so that if the starter is jumped, the car still won't start.

The Battery saver will disconnect any system to prevent discharge below a minimum threshold. Unfortunately, when the Alternator is working extra hard to charge a really bad battery: it will disconnect the charging circuit because it reads the Draw going to the Alternator to produce the power as a parasitic drain. Even at 70mph I have seen the charging disconnected and the vehicle coast to a stop when the electric runs out.

The last system worth mentioning is the Starter interlock. Under the dash and at the top of the Brake pedal lever is a switch. When you press the brake pedal, the switch allows the starter to crank provided the shifter is not in D or R. Drivers feet routinely hit this switch and either move it or break it. When it breaks it can short and drain the battery.

As you mentioned a Random problem, the Brake switch can shake to create a random problem if it is loose or broken. Your rear brake lights can be affected.

With the horn honking, at least part of your problem is the Alarm system. You can have a bad ignition switch too, which reads the keychip to disable the alarm. Your keychip may be bad and setting off the Alarm.

I had a new Lincoln myself which set off the Alarm randomly. I actually slept inside the car one night so I could turn off the alarm in the Apartment complex parking lot. Did'nt know if it would start again if the battery was disconnected and then reconnected. The Battery was shorted with less than 1000 miles on the car. It was a factory defective battery less than 3 months old.

But your car has many years and miles on it so it was worth mentioning the wear items. I hope my solution is helpful.

Put that in the tank and then turn the key on and wait for about 10 sec. then turn key off. Repeat this two mor times. Then try to start the car normaly and drive to the gas station and fill the car up. Oh and stop running out od gas!

what do you mean by "dash lights"? how do you KNOW the pump isnt working? how do you KNOW its good? at the ignition switch the ORANGE and PINK should have power in the RUN position the BROWN and TAN/WHITE should also be HOT in the run position. There should be a red wire near the fuel pump relay, make sure its HOT when cranking. IF its HOT and the fuel pump doenst run, the pump is bad. You can also put 12V on that red wire and power the pump.

The converter is 13 years old

It won't be too effective by now,
so you may want to consider replacing it

First have a repair shop check your O2 Sensors

The front ones get replaced at 100,000 miles

The rear ones are your Monitor ones you have
an issue with. They may be shot by now

Don't always need a MIL Lamp on dash to have
worn out parts
