My iron turns on but after some time, like 15seconds, the red light starts flashing and the iron no longer heats up

I plug it in, no problem there but then it starts to make a beeping sound and that's when the red light starts flashing. from then onwards it starts to cool down.

SOURCE: my brand new first impressions

Hi, you simply have a thermostat problem with the iron with i think is a factory fault since you said it is brand new. I will advise you not to tamper with it in any form, all you need do is return it to the point of purchase and request for another one instead of spending money to fix it.....

IRon heats standing but the light goes out when I set it horizontal to iron a garment. I think the cord is needing replacement but need advice.

If the iron is not moved while it is plugged
in, an internal safety switch will turn it off.
- It will turn off in 8 minutes if left vertically or
in 30 seconds if left on its soleplate or tipped
over. A red flashing light indicates that the
auto-off has been activated.

The above information is from the Rowenta DX1700 Owner's Manual. I think most, if not all Rowenta irons have the "auto off" safety feature. If your iron is going off before the 30 seconds idle time, the sensor may be defective. If you are letting it sit on the sole plate longer than 30 seconds, you may just need to work faster. ;-)

Not heating up, flashing light

It sounds like you have a loose wire, check your plug to make sure the wire connections are sound. The loose connection may be where the wire enters the iron its self. For saftey I would have this repaired by a professional or have it replaced.

My iron worked perfectly and suddenly started beeping and all of the lights went out and it no longer heats up. It is only 2 years old with not much use.

Try wiggling cable at plug and then at iron side if light flashes you have a broken wire.

Rowenta precision iron DM 561 will not heat up

Most irons for which you pay more than $10 (like this nice Rowenta) will have a replaceable heating element. The problem seems to be to try to find where you can get the heating element. My best bet would be for you to contact a Rowenta service center (see listing at http://tinyurl.com/danr9x). They should be able to tell you where you can get the heating element.

Before you go that route, I am assuming you already plugged the iron directly into the outlet in the wall (not in the surge strip)? Wouldn't be the first time a single outlet of a power strip goes bad.

Good Luck,

Red light flashing

Blinking red light is a standby phase, its not going to get hot like this. Shake it or just start ironing, the red light will go solid and the plate will heat up. The red light will go off when the plate is hot enough. It will go on again (solid) after a few minutes to keep the plate at the right temperature. If you leave it standing around for a while it will begin blinking again (standby).

These irons are known for malfunctioning though, mine stays in standby and the plate never heats up! Hopefully yours is fine.
