I looked on their trouble shooting page as well and then I called. They told me to get a driver from Microsoft who then told me to go to Dell who then wanted to charge me $69 to solve the problem. My system quantifies it as an unknown device and says that I don't have the proper driver. since you are saying that it is a generic driver should I just be trying to update all my USB port drivers?

sounds like youv had an operating update which has disabled the tomtom...ok heres the windows version, plug in the tomtom, look in device and printers, right click on either the device itself or the device that wasnt there bfor you plugged it in, right click, select trouble shoot and follow the instructions.....if there is no new device there then go to this link How do install TomTom HOME on my computer happy new year
Lots of folks having this problem with differernt model TomToms. It's the USB on the TomTom.
You'll need to "reset" the unit, using a paperclip or narrow pen, hold the reset button in for about 5 seconds and you should be good to go. On the 630 it's on the bottm, right next to the USB port.
I just called TomTom support, I was instructed to hold the reset button on the bottom of the unit for 15 seconds and then reconnect the GPS to my computer. It worked, TomTom Home opened and I was able to apply the updates.
First turn your firewall off (if you have one).
You need to go into your 630 with the TomTom Home software and erase the downloaded software (with the remove items from my device) and reset the device (little reset button under the unit keep it pressed for 5 seconds), place it back in the cradle and restart your computer and than restart the 630 ,
Bring the TomTom Home program up, and when the TomTom Home software in your computer restarts and detects the 630 it will tell you that you need to update the application, if it doesn't than you force the update by going to the add maps option, select items on my computer, select applications and press the add button,
when done, go back and to device (option in top of your screen) and select disconnect device, restart your 630 and it should be back to life with the upgraded software.
Hope this Should solve your problem else Call their tech support at no charge (866-486-6866, Glen) , really good service
Hi, check out http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/ I think you'll find the PDL manual that you can save for future reference. I had the same problem, just bought a 630 at a bargain price at Comet but like you couldn't find a manual on the CD
I called 1-800-828-4040 since our camera was purchased only 1 week ago. I was told to uninstall my previous cannon camera SD 630 files: ZoomBrowser EX and EOS Utility and all the associated cannon files. When I reloaded the new software I was able to transfer pictures from the camera to the computer. (There must have been a confusion in reading the new camera versus the previous camera with the old data still on my computer) That would be a could tip for trouble shooting in the Software Starter Guide.
I have the same problem. TomTom Home refuses to work on any of my laptops.
