AV Receiver - Sound not getting through to speakers.

My JVC AV receiver has just started to play up (it's about 5 years old). It started with some cracking noises in the speakers and then the sound just went off. The sound came back but again went off after a while. I tried just the radio but no joy! Something is obviously wrong but should I buy a new one or get this one fixed?

Thanks,
Chris

Before you do anything else, make sure no tiny strands of speaker wire from one channel haven't got in contact with the speaker wires from the other channel. Check first on the back of the receiver, then at the back of each speaker. This can cause the circuit breakers for that channel to shut it off when there is audio. It can also blow the fuses inside your receiver. It only takes one tiny strand to blow your amp.

SOURCE: AIWA AV-D58 RECEIVER

We found that the protector came on and we searched for a solution, however we could not find anything that fixed it. Finally we found that some of the wires for one of our speakers were touching and adjusting those wires solved the problem.

SOURCE: how to connect 6.1 speakers to 7.1 receiver

Using the Onkyo display setup, you can turn off one surround speaker, and your receiver should realize it's using the 6.1 channels instead of the 7.1

If you don't want to go that route, use the mic setup that came in the box and your Onkyo will determine by itself the 6.1 channel layout.

It should work fine.

SOURCE: can't get audio from HD TV to run through Yamaha receiver speaker

be more specific!...how is the tv hooked up? hdmi, component, straight to the tv, or into the amp then tv?....what audio out? optical, digital? also what are you trying to view? local programming? cable/sat? dvd? your best bet is to ignore video on the amp and go straight to tv. can't help u more until i have more specifics.

SOURCE: Low volume from Akai turntable attached to Pioneer Surround Sound Receiver

If you receiver doesn't have phono inputs, you will need to buy an inline phono amplifier.Phono inputs have a built in amplifier, all others don't.Try Crutchfield.com.If they don't carry them, they will tell you who does.

I have the following setup: AV Receiver: Pioneer

Very common problem with today's receivers. Receivers made today don't have a true preamp section in the amplifier and do not amplify the sound to the extent of an older receiver. I have large 15" front speakers on my system, and have stuck with my 15 year old receiver just because I know that a new receiver will not have the power to drive them well. Many of the newer receivers need to be turned up to 50-60% before you can even hear anything from the speakers.

Looking for jvc old receiver model jr-s501

Did you ever find a JVC JR-S501 receiver? I've got one, with a problem. It will play fine for, sometimes half an hour, or sometimes less, and then a loud "POP" sound in speakers. But then will play fine again. Blows fuses on speakers.

JVC RX-9010VBK receiver - premap section won't turn on normally

It sound like a bad connection. The first thing that I would do is tighten all the ground screws that hold the circiut boards and the heat sink to the chassis. If that doen't fix it, flex the circuit boards slighty to see if the relays chick on and off (disconnect the speakers first). It could be on the input board, on the relays themselves or just about anywhere.

Sound Problems with JVC AV-35BP4 TV

The audio output stage for the speakers may have failed in the TV set. If the set has an earphone jack, it is also possible that the jack has a fault (very rare, but I have seen this).

Are there external speaker outputs to try other speakers?

Sound Problems with JVC AV-35BP4 TV

Hi there!
The amplifier section may be at fault. Could also be IF or dry joints in that area. Also check the speakers(Highly unlikely though) Good Luck,JUS004
