One possible cause is the bezel under the actual button is decompressed and wont pop back up. If the laptop has one, that means the little rubber like devider between the keys and the actual board that registers the key press is comopressed. You can pop off the 6 key and clean under it as well as visually check it out. you may want to remove the keys around it as well to see any issues. If you can't get it working, an easy work around is to assign one of your function keys(F1 thru F12) to the number 6. Kinda sucks but it will work until you get it fixed up.
