Take the battery out of the camera, put it into the supplied LI-40C battery charger or a compatible, and plug the charger into a power outlet. If you need a battery charger, you can order a compatible charger from

Try recharging the battery. If that doesn't work, try a new battery.
Use the supplied charger to charge the battery. If you've lost the charger, you can get an LI-41C charger from Olympus. You can also get LI-40B or LI-42B batteries from them.
I assume you charging battery in charger when it blinks.
This means the charger cannot charge the battery, as the battery has been left too long discharged & annodised inside...new battery required i'm affraid!
The AC adapter does not affect the battery in any way. You use the AC adapter as an alternate power source to power the camera. In order to charge the battery you need to remove it from the camera and use the charger that came with the camera.
When you purchased the camera, there should have been a charge in the box (you got a lithium-ion rechargable battery with the camera, no?). You put the battery in the charger and plug the charger in the wall.
