Yes you can but may cause problem with cold starts.. is the black plastic choke thermostat adjustable? if so loosen the 3 flat head screws, do not remove them,, rotate choke thermostat counter clock wise until you see the choke butter fly start to break open.. stop and turn back clockwise about 1/4 of a turn.. that should give you just enough choke to start cold engine

It sounds like the carb. float is set to high and /or the needle and seat has some dirt in it allowing to much fuel inside the carb.. This will allow to much fuel into the engine. It seems the carb could use a rebuild and dont forget to replace your fuel filter.I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Toyoat Hard to start

I recommend to remove carb and send to a specialist to have rebuilt or reconditioned. Cleaning it may not be enough. A carb that old may need to be serviced. This would be your starting point. The service shop can test it "outside" of vehicle.

SOURCE: i have recently rebuilt the single barrel carb on

Check the two screws / pins on the side connected to the air / gas flow levers. The screws go into and out of the carb and / or rods itself. Just play with it and hope you didn't leave anything out!

Is the choke operating properly? You say the current carb has an electric choke, so I am assuming the original carb did not have an electric choke. If that's the case, have you wired the electric choke to a power supply?

85 jeep cherokee 2.5l runs fine on level ground but the carb floods when I'm going up hills? Any solutions? Its been tuned up new plugs and wires and everything but why is it flooding?

Your carb is needing to be rebuilt the seals and float and valve seat may be damage. The float opens when the fuel level in the carb is low. If the valve seat is damaged or the float is not working. Gas can keep pouring into the carb resulting in extra fuel. Till the engine stops and fuel pump pressure stops pushing fuel it will keep pouring fuel and will not stop till rebuilt correcting the problems. Buy rebuild kit and rebuild it or try junkyard and replace it.

280S 1981 mercedes

excess fuel is not jets but the float needle and seat has material that is not allowing the needle to seal on the seat
check pump pressure as the pressure regulator may not be working causing excessive pressure that the float cannot control

Excess fuel consumption

I would like to know what is the running tempreature of the vehicle, if the engine is running cold at all times then the computer will dump gas thinking the engine will die, check the O2 sensors and see if they are in range, also check the fuel pressure and it should be in specs last time to look into is the fuel pressure regulator. I hope the air filter is replaced.

My 1983 cutlass supreme keeps flooding out. It wont even start after sitting awhile, carburator fills up with fuel, what can be causing this?

Hello!

if you have a carbuerator unit on her, i assume you a refering to the fuel overfilling the bowl and flooding oiut after vehicle is shut off. this can be caused by a worn or dirty needle for the float, or possibly the float itself has ruptured and is partialy submirsed allowing excess fuel to enter the fuel bowl. i believe you may have a 307 or 260 engine that came with a rochester 2 barrel carb. there are unly a few screws on top of this carb and is quite simple to check...just be careful to place all pieces back in same position removed from...although with that age, the gaskets will likely tear when taking apart. it may be worth your while to check into a complete replacement from NAPA. anyways, once the 4 or 6 screws (cant remember) are off from top of carb (i suggest having the carb removed from engine as if you drop a screw into throat of carb and the engine ingests it..its bye bye engine)...the float will be exposed..carefully lift it out paying attention to the needle position once out...be carefule to not bend the tang that needle hangs on as this is you float depth that sets the volume of fuel allowed in bowl. and shake it to see if fuel is inside float. if so, replace it..if not, you may be able to spray carb cleaner into the seat that float needle sits in and wash off the needle itself..reasseble and recheck performance..also it is a good idea to replace fuel filter when carb is off...i hope this help you...good luck!

ps your 4 thumbs up is much appreciated
